Cleats as carry on?

We always carry on the mitt but have never thought about cleats. Good thinking.

Where in VA?

When we travel to Australia, I request the players not to carry the metal cleats in the "carry on"
bag. They are a classified as a weapon on International flights as are metal bats.

My suggestion is to carry turf shoes in the "carry on" bag.

We're going to the camp at UVA. I couldn't afford to get 2B out to the Stanford camp, so this is the next best thing. We're looking forward to seeing the campus and the facilities.

I'll probably ask the folks at the desk and be ready to put the cleats in the checked bag if necessary. I'll let y'all know what we learn.

FYI...UVA's field is a mess right now.

When we went to GA, one of the pitchers forgot his cleats. His mom carried them on, Southwest I think. She didn't need them getting lost. She had no problem carrying them on.

I see no problem with it. When I was in College, I flew Boston to LA. with Cleats, and my wood bat carried on. Of course this was pre 9/11 I was able to carry the bat on.

I've asked TSA this question in the past and they said no problem. 08Son has large feet and finding a pair of cleats in the event that his luggage was lost would be a significant issue. 08Son has also always flown with his glove - basically, anything that can't easily be replaced flies with you is my motto.

I can certainly understand that! 2B blew out one of his cleats at East Cobb this year, and it was easy to go to Dick's and get a new pair of size 12s. But one of our pitchers arrived with exactly one size 15. Not so easy to find!

Just a quick update - the cleats were no problem. What they pulled out to check were...baseballs! He had five or six with him for some reason. They took them out of his bag at every checkpoint we went through until 2B finally just took them all out and put them in the tray. I wonder what they looked like in the scanner.

The field looked like I would expect in the off-season. It was a great camp, beautiful campus, nice people, but wow it was hot! 102 in Charlottesville! I was glad to get back to Florida where it was only 92!

Plus - more evidence of the small world of baseball - turns out that the UVA pitching coach went to HS here in Gainesville, and played against our HS head coach in high school, and they played together on Legion teams for a couple of years. He also coached here for a couple of years. You never know.
