NEWS RELEASE:

CCU tells parents of students that wildfire not a threat to school
Published: April 23, 2009

CONWAY - Coastal Carolina University is working to reassure parents watching national news coverage of the wildfire in Horry County that the blaze is not a threat to the school.

In a news release, officials say classes continue as regularly scheduled and that updates will be posted on the University Web site as necessary.

Some students, faculty and staff have been affected by road closings and evacuations, and professors have been asked to be flexible in attendance and late-entrance policies.

Horry County has opened the Emergency Operations Center and Joint Information Center as of 8 a.m. this morning. In addition, a call center (843-915-5150) has been opened to address citizen concerns and questions.

For more information, contact Martha Hunn in University Communication at 843-349-2962.
