Beginning in 2014, the South Plains Connie Mack Regional Tournament will be drawn and consist of four state champions, seven regional qualifier champions and the host.  It will be played July 23-27 at David Allen Memorial Ballpark in Enid, OK.  It will be conducted exactly as a World Series. We will be using NCAA officials and the 4 million dollar ball park was just turfed.  It is the home of the NJCAA Division II World Series.

This is big news.  Sounds great!  Some questions...will there be 7 Regional Qualifiers now?  Where?  When?  What leagues will be represented as State Champions?

The model is for seven regional qualifiers to be played in Cherry Creek, CO, Burkburnett, TX, Dallas, TX (2), Enid, OK, Grapevine, TX, and Houston, TX. Those seven qualifier champions will join state champions from Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas plus the host team Enid Majors.  Teams from the four non-state regulated areas of Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, and Louisiana can enter competition through the qualifier process which serve as regional "leagues". The four states determine their own qualification process through state leagues.  The regional tournament is a 12-team double-elimination tournament with the winner advancing to the 50th consecutive World Series to be played in Farmington.  I believe it will be televised on MLB network this year. The South Plains Region is determined to grow registrations in 2014.

Good stuff.  I hope this model plays through and AABC thrives this way.  I'll be at the 50th Connie Mack World Series and look forward to seeing a strong Regional winner.
