Its a good start.
If you are interested in this particular school, send them!!!
It is all good!!!
There are no promises made but it emans they have a sincetre interest in you--why else would they be wanting to see your academics ?
AS for the roster spot---lets not put the cart before the horse---give them the info they need---you surely are not the only pitcher they are looking at and your transcript can either make or break the deal for you
It means your ability to hack it both through the admissions process, and after you get there, is a key factor in their decision on whether or not to make you an offer.
It means I hope you've been doing your schoolwork the past few years!
There were many coaches who called me on the phone multiple times, however in the end, though they showed interest, not all of them offered me scholarships. However, in my recruiting process, the schools that requested my transcript were very interested. In fact, after thinking back, I realized that EVERY university that ASKED for my transcript afterwards offered me a scholarship to play for them. So, hopefully, that is a trend that will continue for you as well.
However, that is not always the case. But, I had good grades which helped in my favor. So, it is important to try our best to get good grades in high school and at the collegiate level.
Overall, it is a very positive sign when coaches request your transcript. And it is an even better sign for the coaches if we have done well in our classes.
Like Midlo said I hope you took care of business in the classroom. It is really sad to see kids finally get that call and the coaches want the kid and then they get the transcripts - sorry we cant get you in. Good luck!
1. wants to see if you are admittable to his school.
2. wants to see if you will be NCAA eligible
3. wants to see if you can qualify for academic money at his school
4. wants to see if you have a GPA or class rank that will allow him to blend academic and athletic money successfully
Keep in mind that with the 35 man roster limit and the 30 scholarship limit, at least 5 guys are going to be on no baseball money whatsoever...academic money is more important now than ever before.
They may also ask you to complete a FAFSA Application to see if you qualify for financial aid as part of the financial support mix (especially private schools).
Hoping to revive this thread - my 2017 emailed coaches ahead of attending the PG WWBA in Fort Myers last week - a D1 head coach replied within 12 hours (and cc'd another coach on staff) and asked for my son to send transcripts, video, fill out recruiting questionnaire, etc. Son's email included his 60 time, vertical, size, height, GPA & SAT (taken early as sophomore).
Son can send transcript from last year (showing B average) - but over the summer he applied and was accepted to private school where he's currently taking 2 AP courses, Honors courses and has almost straight A's.
Think it would be okay to send transcript plus the current report card which comes out in late October to show grades getting better? Thoughts from anyone who's already been through this process - or doing it now?
Can they run a new transcript after that Oct report card at the new school? I'm not sure how it works with transfers but for my 2016 they ran us a transcript about 3/4s of the way through the year and then sent us his final one when his last report card was out. It's updated immediately when the grades are posted at our school. Check with the new school and see if they can generate a transcript and what would be on it (I'm assuming they should have old schools data and current but again, I'm not sure).
CAGirl,
Your son should provide as much factual & relevant information as he can to the coach that will differentiate himself. He should send his transcript plus current report card with a short explanation of the school change. If his grades and future SATs/ACTs can make a difference in his "recruitability", he should absolutely do it. As always, JMO.
Good luck!
Folks above are correct. What is a little fuzzy is how the new school incorporates the old school transcipts. There are various ways they combine (or not) the transcripts. Safest thing to do, if you're in a hurry, is just copy the report card from the new school and send it with a transcript from the old school. If you can wait til semester grades are in, send a transcript from each school.
Great that they want the info.
I was just about to start a topic about this, In my situation the coach had never seen me play before but sent me an email asking for a video and transcript after I filled out the questionnaire that got mass emailed to me, I sent him the transcript two days ago and have yet to hear back. I mentioned how I really just realized how important my grades are going to be in the email as well because I mostly just coasted through not putting in much effort but still ended up with a 3.4, this school is HIGHLY selective and even if I get my gpa to where I want it, I probably wont be able to get in without the help of the coach. I dont know if I should give up hope yet because I haven't sent the video because of file errors, does anyone have any input on this that could help me? If anyone has been in a situation similar to this it would be awesome to see how it panned out
others will have more experience with this, but I don't think you should panic after two days. Just let the coach know you're still working on the video, and maybe what you plan to do to get your grades up. Do you have ACT/SAT/PSAT scores yet?
How strong is the school's baseball program within its conference?
LHP2017,
Step back. Relax and think this through. You were on a mass emailing list and responded. That is great you are demonstrating interest but this is not generally how the recruiting process works. The Coach will need to see you play at some point. Your play AND your grades/SATs will determine their interest level. Your 3.4 GPA is part of the story but not the whole story. For future reference don't tell a coach/teacher/employer you "coasted". That will raise more questions than it provides answers. Find a way to get in front of this coach at a showcase or camp if they show interest or respond. Find a way to improve your GPA, ACT/SAT and baseball skills. That is your best chance to get any coaches attention.
So, if this one school included you in a mass mailing there has to be reason. Do you think it would be worth your time and effort to target schools like the one that reached out to you? Possibly these other schools are looking for recruits like you? it is possible. So, while I would continue to follow up with this one school I'd also look to broaden my search to include many more schools like it. Find out their baseball needs, academic requirements and try to show the coach what you can do.
