Good to hear from you. I would venture to wager that the former head cook and bottle washer Mr. HSBBW will weigh in on that one. Wink Of course the bottom will drop out of the stock in Ray Ban sunglasses.

Fungo,
If we only could hear from Bob, BamaBomber and TNScoutForReal!!! Do you remember when "Spiderman" would drop by and give inside information on coaching hires? Those were the days! Maybe I need to retire my Ray-Ban avatar. Big Grin
Keep them Ray Bans ---- you can wear them to watch the UT softball team in the World Series. Do I remember the days?? I sure do remember the days!! Spiderman could give us some advice for sure! Of course TnScoutForReal has too many ties to the Commodores to be taken seriously by the Big Orange Machine and anyone with a first name of Bama (as in Bama Bomber) will get NO respect in Knoxville. Big Grin
I'm not surprised it happened. Tennessee reached historical highs during the tenure, but unfortunately found itself on the outside-looking-in too many times.

But, now what? Does Hamilton or his representatives lurk around the concourse in Omaha and see if there's any interest? Does he look for a "basketball Bruce Pearl?"
GrandPooBah update

Just checked in with the grand one and he and family are doing great. Seems he has been traveling with work and many of his trips have taken him to India. He is now a huge “Cricket” fan, so don’t be surprised if the next great pro baseball player is from India. The GrandPooBah is still scouting for talent.

His many trips to India have him in touch with the many call centers in India. If you ever have a service issue with your electrical appliances, computers, our government agencies, etc. He is the one person that can now cut all the red tape and get you help!!!

As for our next coach, the GrandPooBah has his resume in order and is waiting for a call. I believe the BamaBomber will be head assistant and recruiting czar, Fungo will be pitching coach (that way it will never be the catcher’s fault)

I can't wait for Scott Boras to get the deal put together.
Well now ... Seems like old times again. Doesn't that usually happen at weddings and funerals?

As I have said, when my opinion was asked ... One thing Rod never did was embrace the Knoxville community or the state of Tennessee ... see Bruce Pearl for an example of doing that right! I thought about all the wonderful in-state players that got away under his tenure. (of course they were all poorly recruited by assistants according to Delmonico)

He never really seemed to like it here. While his won loss record is to be noted I think the recent success at Vanderbilt has to have made the AD (Hamilton) wonder. Especially when losing the recruiting battles.

Now for some other thoughts ... Delmonico was the lowest paid baseball coach in the SEC. Around $190,000 per. The average is now at $375,000. The Vol assistant coaches were also not paid at a level equal to their peers. While remodeled facilities are on the horizon the current "digs" are at best adequate. Attendance at UT games this year was 12th in the SEC (last) ... not all Rod's fault there, except for that anemic non-conference schedule that he continued to trot out lately.

It is time for the UT athletic department to step up and show support for the baseball program! Hamilton needs to personally contact former Vol players and mend those bridges (see Todd Helton, R.A. Dickey, Joe Randa etc.)

My hope? Bring back Dave Serrano (former UT assistant coach) from UC Irvine!

I do feel badly for Larry Simcox, a class man that has shown a true loyalty for 17 years. I wish only good things for "Slim."

Hello old friends!

Four weeks doesn't seem very long to look for a new coach?

The person I feel sorry for is Tony Delmonico. He is a very good classy player and I wish him well in any decision he makes for the future. I was impressed with him from the first time I saw him a few years ago and I knew he was going to be a top div I player.

The Bama Bomber is correct about coach Pierce at Troy State who is a fine man and class act! I had dinner with him one time and was very much impressed
by him and his coaching staff.

I think Coach Steve Peterson at MTSU would be another great choice but both men are invested with blood in their programs and I would be very much surprised if either left his current school.

Believe it or not, Pierce and Peterson were cut from the same cloth!

I've missed you "Good Old Boys"! Just getting old and I now have a grandson 1 1/2 years old. I'll be back in the swing of things in a few more years and give it another go! Smile

Peterson is close to retirement and I am not sure that he would be interested in the job at this point & time in his life. However, Bobby Pierce could very well be the perfect fit for Tennessee and beleive me when I tell you that he would crawl to Knoxville for the opportunity to coach in the SEC. Tennessee has everything that Coach Pierce needs to be very successful with regards to travel money, plans to upgrade the facilities, SEC competition, salaries for assistant coaches, etc... IMO, Mike Hamilton would be very happy if he made the decision to select Bobby Pierce.
Not that I'm remotely close to "The Loop" (I'm not), but there's not a lot of news leaking right now.

McMahon was discussed by a couple of guys on a radio show, but I haven't heard of any direct interest. From what I understand, he's an outstanding individual, and he did some great things at Florida.

My guess is that UT will be looking for someone a bit younger. I just read on the main discussion board that Clemson's O'Sullivan is taking the Florida job. He was listed as a name on some lists (just from other internet posters).

I don't know whether it will go anywhere or not, but I'd be willing to bet that there's at least some discussion with UC-Irvine's Dave Serrano. There have apparently been some rumors. It was mentioned, in passing, during the broadcast of UCI's Sunday game against Wichita St.

The only media-reported contacts so far are that Tennessee had asked for permission to speak with Austin-Peay's McClure and College of Charleston's Powalski (sp?).

Update:

The information that I have received is that Shonerock did not feel that he had a solid chance at getting the job and he wanted to move on to recruiting the 2008 class.

Dan McDonnell (Louisville): Tennessee likes his style of play but it would be hard for him to leave Louisville after only one season. Louisville AD will do everything possible to keep him.

Dave Serrano (Cal Irvine): It may be his job to turn down. The problem is that he and his family are West Coast people and are not sure they want to make the move to Knoxville. Serrano also does not want to take the job unless assistant coach Sergio Brown agrees to go with him.

Bobby Pierce (Troy): Is ready to take the job and MH has received great recomendations on Pierce. Bobby Pierce had a verbal to take the Alabama job last season if Jim Wells had not backed out on taking the LSU job at the last moment. This could possibly be the best fit for Tennessee as Pierce is a low key guy that "Everyone" seems to like. One report is that no one has ever said anything bad about Pierce.
I will be running our annual BEST Alabama Invitational out of Troy University this week. In fact I will be leaving this morning. I will convey all of your thoughts to Bobby. Knowing all of the men mentioned on the board with the exception of Dave Serrano, I can tell you they all would do well at UT. I do know that Bobby has interest in the job and communications have taken place between him and Hamilton. I cannot see it taking much longer to get someone in place, due to recruiting.

The best situation would be for you guys to hire Wells from Alabama and let Bobby move to T'town.. Big Grin

I have promised HV to put on a UT cap and have my picture taken if Bobby is hired, though.

Please don't tarnish the Volunteer colors by wearing a Tennessee NEWERA cap.
