After a 3-2 win over Bushnell-Prairie City/Avon on Wednesday night, Camp Point Central/Southeastern coach Dave Swisegood needs just four more wins to break Jack Kaiser's career-wins record of 892.

Dave has been coaching for 52 years now, first at Plymouth, then at Southeastern and now the Camp Point/Southeastern co-op.

Good luck to Swise and his team. He's a great guy!
This guy is in his late 70's and still hits ground balls during warmup. He is constantly coaching the players during the game whether they are at bat,on the field or on the bases.

He's a tough guy also, as 2 years ago at sectionals he was at the fence on the first base line and got hit in the head with a line drive foul. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital against his wishes
as he was insisting on staying and watching the game.

A true baseball legend!

Dave Swisegood: 893rd career coaching victory...and counting

Tuesday, April 8, 2008

With that mischievous-looking grin and that twinkle in his eye, many people may think Dave Swisegood is a joker.

On Monday afternoon though, he became king of diamonds of Illinois high-school baseball.

Sophomore Derrick Hull pitched a four-hitter, while classmate Sean Grosinic knocked in three runs as Camp Point Central/Southeastern defeated host Lewistown 6-1 in a nonconference contest.

The win was No. 893 for Swisegood, who became the all-time wins leader in IHSA baseball history. He surpassed former Oak Park-River Forest coach Jack Kaiser, who posted an 892-408-6 record from 1953-2000. Swisegood, now in his 53rd season as a head coach, has a career record of 893-482.

"It's a lot of games," said Swisegood, who recalled his first victory in 1956, when Plymouth beat Bowen 3-2 out at the old racetrack in Plymouth.
