Each season I am striving to learn more to teach more to my student athletes. In learning more and taking instruction to higher level, I have realized I am forgetting to focus on details that have always been a fundamental of what I do. For example, with the middle IF, I just recently remembered to emphasize taking a right/left momentum step as the pitchers arm is going forward and also "making rounds," backing up throws from the catcher to the pitcher. Do you guys have this struggle? Every season are there things you feel like you did not emphasize enough? I am not talking about things the results tell you, you did not emphasize, just things in general.
I have a love and passion for this game, and I want to be a great coach!!!

You're right. Every year there seems to be more to teach and less time to do it. The link below is a checklist I've used to make sure I cover the things players need to know. I make it a point to cover every one prior to the first game and then cover it at least once more during the season. I place a check or an X next to it when I cover it the 1st and 2nd time so I know. It helps me plan out practices more efficiently. Feel free to use mine or make your own.

I find that the biggest problem is that the more you attempt to grow as a coach and the more knowledge you obtain you tend to forget the little things. I know personally I have to write out a plan like meachrm has to remind myself of the little things. I also have a plan that I gave my lower level coaches to use as well.
meachrm that's an awesome checklist and I'm going to borrow it if you don't mind.

What's worked for me in the past once I started realizing certain things were being overlooked is take a certain and just cover certain aspects of something. For example on Monday's we covered 1st and 3rd defense and anything associated with it. Tuesdays we did bunt defense and Wednesday we would do picks / rundowns. Thursdays would be different cuts / relays that you normally wouldn't see in pregame IF / OF. All this would change once we started playing games. Then I would just do it where if I haven't covered something in a long period of time that is what we would do the next practice.

You just have to admit the fact that a HS team cannot cover everything everyday. So pick and choose what you want covered when and just do it.
