I just wondered how many of you coaches, hitting instructors would agree with my son's high school coaches strategy...It goes like this, the standard saying is SWING LATE second is that if ball is not hit to opposite field every time at bat that means stadiums to run for each infraction, third is if umpire calls a strike on the first pitch of the at bat and you are not swinging that is another stadium to run after the game. Batting practice consists of about 15 cut per man with coach throwing the ball from a ramp half way home,,,80 percent of his pitches are inside and he gives a stadium to be ran for each infraction of hitting to the opposite side also gives a stadium for a ball hit in the air to opposite side it has to be on the ground....I just wanted a few oppinions about this since I know mine....He cant understand why his team cant hit and when they do hit weak ground ball or pop up to opposite field....I just want to know If I am an Idiot or not so you all please let me know....Thanks in advance..

I taught my kid to hit outside pitches to opposite field, middle pitches to center field and inside pitches to left field. (He is right-handed). I also taught him I didn't care what type of pitch, FB, curve, change, etc. that was the approach.

Told him, though, most common approach to high school is outside, therefore must get good on outside of plate. Also told him he could be a .350 high school hitter if he just swung at middle pitches because pitchers miss.

I think the coach needs to read this website. Many great hitting coaches here. If I coached ping pong, which I know little about, I would at least research it, read all the books I could find and seek advice. How do we have so many coaches that are so inept? I know most are not but how can a coach that is a head coach in any sport not go get the info in this day and age?
