I came across an interesting article recently about a coach of a well respected (but not top 25) Division 1 school that is part of a state university system. It said that his salary annually is $95,676. Is this a normal amount of money for a coach to make? I'm assuming they can conceivably make quite a bit more with camps that they run, as well as media contracts, etc. I know some coach's salaries are well publicized and upwards of a half a million dollars, but I'm talking more of the middle of the pack team, not the SEC, ACC, Big 10 or Pac 10.

It is my understanding that the "average" salary for the SEC is $327,000.00 per year. What I don't know is if this is a base salary or includes performance based incentives. What I do know is that at the JUCO level many schools now want their coaches to have their masters so that they are able to teach a full load in addition to their coaching responsibilities. With the economic crisis that the USA is in we may see more coaching staffs being required to teach.
