Send me a personal message and we can discuss offline.  I've only got positive things to say about them as the experience was great.

If the experience was great and positive, why does it have to be sent in a PM?  Wouldn't it be good information to make public in case others are interested?  I am all for the use of the PM's (Dialogues) for topics that don't need to be public, but if it is positive, I think it should be shared.

^^^ What he said ^^^

In the event that those conversations are best kept as PM's, Cleveland, do ya mind if I pick your brain as well?

I ask because that school is on our radar and I just read this article:

http://www.goccusports.com/spo...c-rel/070215aaa.html

and figure that it can only mean good news for continuity and strength of the program,  unless there's something I just don't know.

Anybody who knows me knows I am a big supporter of my son's former school and coach. But I always answer questions directly about that program through a Dialog or PM.

This is a public forum and you never know when someone will misconstrue anything you say. Sometime I will add cautions that the parent and young man needs to be aware of, I do not always like to share those in Public.

ClevalandDad graciously offered to provide info. He should be allowed to do it in any way he sees fit.

Sorry about that, I wasn't intending on excluding information.  It saves me time giving interested people my phone number and chatting that way.  Anyone reading this thread can send me a pm with their number and I'll call them to discuss.

The coaching situation is going to be a big recruiting tool for them.  The present coach's contract is up in 2020 and by all accounts seems as though he'll retire at that time.  The coach they got back - Kevin Schnall is one of the top recruiters and coaches in the country - especially for hitters and catchers.  He's taken no-name players and turned them into Johnny Bench finalists on several players.  He's set to take over as head coach when Coach Gilmore retires and is a Coastal alum.

They have a brand new indoor multi-million dollar hitting/pitching facility, brand new stadium, and are located near the beach in Myrtle Beach South Carolina.  They've hosted regionals and super regionals and are determined to play in Omaha which I believe with the facilities upgrades, the quality of coaching, and their prime location should happen for them sooner rather than later.  What's not to like?

The one caveat, and this is true for all programs who compete at that level is you have to scratch and claw your way into their lineup.  It is a battle with talented kids from all over the country to get playing time but if you can manage it, the rewards are enormous.

Here's an interview we did with Coach Schnall on hsbbweb radio:

No personal experience with Schnall, but have heard nothing but praise from others who's opinions I value.

Here's a related thread from 2009.

A good friend's son just got drafted from Coastal.  He was only there one year after transferring from a JUCO...but absolutely loves everything about the place....the school, the program and Myrtle Beach.  Never heard one thing that was even remotely considered a gripe....and trust me, if there were any, my friend would tell me...lol.

I saw that kid play several times this year on video and he's a good one.  His batting average was probably a little lower than he would have liked but he had good power numbers.  I saw him throw out a couple of kids from his knees.  I believe he was from Lima Ohio and was previously drafted as well.

here's a thread from the bottom of this page.

The are a good program that is committed to win, no question.  Only concern I would raise is an unusually large number of TJ's and other injuries lately.  They were missing several key players when they got to regionals this year, and the last few years haven't been kind to them.

I think that is a fair question.  I am not sure what the answer is.  I know it is not from a lack of preparation and conditioning.

You can't blame a program for injuries, as the damage is often accumulated over time. For pitchers interested in any program always check out boyd nation @boydsworld.com on pitchers abuse points (pap). As stated, for any program.

Thank you RFF for the correction!

Thanks for posting. Sounds like a great program, and this detailed description should help many, and probably the program too.
