What if post application deadlines 2011 RHP gets interest from a school to which he did not apply? We're trying to figure out whether he should apply to every school in which he has a shot of being recruited for baseball(nothing specific yet) and would consider attending, or just to the ones he would attend if baseball were not a factor.

If the JC route (sign up the first day of class) is not a option that you would want to go down, it is good that you have some options for school if baseball does not work out. If he attends full time class at a 4 year school, he would have to red shirt if he transfers to a DI school for baseball and his 5 year clock starts.

That being said, different schools have different capabilities of getting athletes in after the normal application dead line.

One Cal State school told us it was too late to get him in a month before school started and one Cal State school got my son into the school Wednesday before school started on Monday!

Another UC school could get in late admits, but took about two months to push through the application even when his brother was a coach there!

I am big on "what if" scenarios (not always a good thing). Even though my son verbaled to a college in the fall of his senior year I encouraged him to apply to a variety of colleges just in case he changed his mind about playing baseball or was injured or whatever. With the CSU/UC system in such dire financial straits now it is not as easy to get a late sign in. So he applied to several colleges independent of playing baseball there. We always knew he had a college to attend even if it didn't include baseball.

It all turned out well though and he did end up signing and attending the college he had verbaled to. Good luck to your son.
