Many of us (parents and players) are just getting started with their college baseball careers. My son and I went to a doubleheader Sunday to see his future team play a division rival. It was worth the 5 hour drive. There are many college senior parents in the stands who's sons college career is coming to an end. Most will not play baseball again. I talked to 4 senior parents this weekend, and it is bittersweet for them. It is hard for me to appreciate their journey at this time as our journey is just getting started, but I was all ears anyway. All parents said they enjoyed the ride, and gave me awesome advise about the team/program and school. They had fantastic baseball stories to tell, and future plans (grad school and employment). I urge anyone in a similiar position to go to a game and talk to these senior parents. These senior parents have "been there and done that", and they have a lot to offer in advice if you want to listen. The one recurring theme was that they got a great education and got to play baseball too.

Amen, coming from one whose son played his last college game about 10 days ago. It is indeed bittersweet, but it's a wonderful ride, well worth the ups and downs. Take lots of pictures, go ahead and buy the extra nice digital camera, and as each year passes, welcome the new freshman parents into the fold as quickly as possible. We've made great friendships with many of our son's teammate's parents. You get to know them and can continue to enjoy their sons' journeys, after your guy gets the sheepskin.
