My son has had great experiences attending college camps. He has been given coaches' phone numbers, invited on unofficial visits and heard from his HS coach that these colleges have called to ask about him. So we think camps are a great way to be seen and hopefully recruited. This year, all of the schools seem to be having their camps the same two weeks in July. My son's top 4 "dream" schools are all having overnight camps the same weeks. The problem is we are scheduled to play Perfect Game WWBA and CABA World Series those same weeks. Do the coaches still come to these tournaments to watch during their camp weeks? If there is a school he is serious about, should he approach them about going for just a day or two should his tournament schedule allow it? Has anyone been in a similar situation and what did you do?

Schools that have a camp during the WWBA will also have coaches in GA...unless maybe you're talking about smaller D2's or D3's...then not necessarily. You'll have no problems asking a coach about it....especially if your son has already had contact with them. If they're interested I'm sure they appreciate seeing him for one of the two days if you can make it. Can't hurt to call them and ask....
I'd like to suggest informing the interested coaches that your son will be at PG WWBA and CABA. You can provide a schedule with locations and then re-check their interest in your suggestion. We found that just about every school that had interest at that time in my son was in East Cobb (former location for PG WWBA). Good luck.
Thanks for feedback. So do you ask for a pro-rated rate? Does that break any rules? Is that common practice?
If you really think they're interested....I don't think it's worth asking for "a deal". If you don't think it's worth a couple bucks to have them see your son at their camp, I would think that deep down you know that they're really not all that interested.

If there is a school he is serious about, he should communicate with that school, expressing his interest in the program and his disappointment to see that their camp is same week as the WWBA event that he is committed to. He should ask if they will be in attendance at WWBA and if there are other camp opportunities where he may be able to attend. If there has been any dialog or inquiries from this particular school, those should be referenced in the communication. If you have specific names from any such dialog, try to go through that person first.
If you are considering trying to manage both, figure out if that is feasible from a logistics standpoint as well as your son's playing capacity and current commitment to the team he will be attending WWBA with. For example, if he is a P and expected to throw more than a few innings at WWBA, it may be pushing it to also pitch at the school camp.
Best wishes and congrats on the attention thus far!
Our current commitment to our team is first and foremost. He is not a pitcher but it could be a strain although most of these schools are within a 4 hour drive and usually he leaves feeling really pumped and excited. As far as paying for the entire camp, I sort of see it the other way. If they are interested in seeing him, why would they ask him to pay full price ($750+) for one day? Unless it is against the rules and then I could understand. A team that would say pay full price for one or two days would make me wonder if they were really interested in seeing him at their camp at all. I could be wrong.
I would do as fenwaysouth and cabagedad have suggested and their answer to your son, could express to him whether their interest is real or about making money at a camp.
It sounds like you really want to be with the team first. Let these coaches know he will be at GA you can get him seen and be with the team.
