While looking around I stumbled on this site which I found interesting. I had no idea it was so organized or so big. Obviously not everyone out there is going to be able to play NCAA or NAIA baseball. This seems like a great alternative for those who just want to keep on playing while preparing for their future. Being ignorant of how this all works I have a question or two. Who sponsors or finances these teams? Are they actually representing their school or just borrowing the name? Who is eligible to play?

I know at Penn State the club team does alot of fundraising on their own to cover travel and expenses. If a player sustains an injury they do not have access to any of the university athletic department support services. They do travel quite extensively. I believe they have tryouts for the team in the fall. The college newspaper does cover the team in their sports section. I do believe the games are played off-campus however.

The Univ of WI has a club team with a nice following of baseball fans. Knowing some of the guys on the team I can say that they play for the passion of the game while their main emphasis is academics. Many of them could be playing some type of college level, not stars, but making a team. However, they read the writing on the wall that their nitch in life was not on the baseball field but in the medical field, business, teaching, engineering or whatever. Bottom line these players whether they are a hair short of talent, or had an injury that held them back, have stepped beyond the typical baseball path and have approached the game from a level of passion that many would never understand. Most of our kids have a dream of playing at the next level, these guys understand that they playing for today, not tomorrow. Very commendable in my book considering the time and effort that is put in .
