In December of 2014, Rex Peters, a terrific college coach( and equally wonderful person) now at UCLA, and his family encountered what no one ever wants to happen with their son. Jake Peters was impacted by very rare type of autoimmune condition. The condition is severely debilitating with no know cure or treatment.  While I have known of it since December, I only recently learned there are ways to help Jake and his family battle the disease and the financial impact this is having.

This is a recent article about Rex and Jake and the battle both are facing.  With the article is a link to make a donation to help defray the incredible medical costs.

Whether it be a prayer, a dollar, more dollars or some combination, I am sure each would be so much appreciated by Rex and his family.

I know it is a very rare situation for a college coach, his son and his family to  be in a position of needing help.  For me, I cannot imagine how tough it must be for Coach Peters to be coaching his players during the college season and leave to be with Jake. Please help in any way you might feel comfortable.

Rex recruited both of our sons while he was the Head Coach at UC Davis.  While neither of our sons ultimately chose his school, Rex was a complete class act in dealing with both of them through the recruitment and in how he talked with them about the decision they ultimately made.

He is a good man.

He and his son are certainly already in my prayers.

This has to be the very best baseball site ever, with the best posters any friend or baseball person in need could want. Thank you!

In just about 4 hours, over $1,000 has been donated to support Jake and Rex and the family in this courageous fight and battle. Earlier today our son posted this painting which Jake did in 2009 of one of the assistant coaches at UC Davis.

I am convinced everyone who reads about Jake and Rex will come together and with their prayers and pocket book will make a difference for Jake so he will once again be drawing pictures of baseball coaches and able to be back on the field playing!.

Thank you!

When people are feeling like their kids are not being treated fairly and deserve more, I am hoping they can refer to this thread for perspective.  Let us be thankful for having healthy sons and daughters in our lives while being mindful of those who are not.  Moreover, when we see things like this from other people's perspective and can truly empathize with them, problems like worrying about playing time or what not seem insignificant.

Good stuff bsbl247.  In addition to the generous gifts from members of the hsbbweb, I see that one lady made a 15,000 dollar donation yesterday.  They are now just about 12,000 dollars shy of their 75,000 dollar fund-raising goal.

jp, thank you!  We all have son's we love so much.  Rex is not just a great baseball coach, he is a very special and unique Father to each of his 3 children in ways most of us never had to do.

Each and every donation is so helpful to defray the massive medical costs for Jake and his family.  They are now less than $12,000 from their goal of $75,000 to manage some of the incredibly large bills.

Please help. I would ask that each poster and member of the HSBBW donate in any way and any amount.  We have to believe every dollar and every prayer will get Jake one minute closer to getting back on a baseball field. Your dollar and your prayer will make a difference for him.

They are now within 11,000 of their 75k goal.  Frankly, in this day and age, I don't see how 75k is even enough but I am hoping we can push them over the top.

Many thanks to each poster who has kept Jake Peters in their thoughts and prayers and for those who could donate to help alleviate some of the incredible medical costs involved.

Coach Peters' wife just posted an update on Jake. His battle is not getting easier.  At this point, it very much sounds like Jake is mentally struggling with  the fact that he will never play baseball, won't attend his HS and won't be with his friends. Jake is facing a transition to a life which could involve quadraplegia.

Please continue to keep Jake and his family in a very special place with the hope this incredible challenge might be lifted, somewhat.

For those who would like, this is a link to Deborah's latest update which includes a beautiful, moving  and poignant picture of Jake and his Dad, Rex.
