What's some of the college coach recruiting speak, phrases and language to be aware of during the recruiting process? I know I pointed out to my son on a few occasions that he might be hearing what he wants versus what the coach is actually saying. For example..."absolutely...we'll give you a SHOT at short-stop" versus "Yes...we NEED you at short-stop." Have any other translations of what coaches say and what it actually may mean?

Depends on the coach.  For some, "We definitely are thrilled about you and without question you will start at shortstop for us as a freshman" translates to "Please sign the NLI, so that we will have you locked down; after that, whether you play at all, much less at any particular position, will depend on how well you produce, how well others produce, and who else I recruit in the meantime."

Responsible coaches don't make the first promise because in reality, all players are going to be living under the reality of the latter statement.

The only real way to know how someone feels about you is to gauge it by how much money they offer.  The higher they offer, the more you are valued.  All the verbiage is only so much smoke blown up your nether regions.
