A quote on another thread caught my eye:
"Easton, Louisville/TPX, and DeMarini pour in a lot of $$ into sponsorship and coaches stipends."
The reason this stood out to me was because I've noticed that coaches at some D1 programs don't make a lot of money. By searching info on various Texas D1 programs at the following site - http://ope.ed.gov/athletics/Search.asp - I learned the following:
* The average salaries for head coaches of men's teams of all sports at highly successful schools seem acceptable, although they still tend to vary a lot ($186,973 at Rice; $518,529 at Texas A&M; $903,890 at Univ. of Texas).
* The average salaries for head coaches of men's teams of all sports at smaller programs can be quite a bit lower ($29,157 at Prairie View A&M; $41,700 at UT-San Antonio; $44,364 at Texas Southern; $75,152 at Sam Houston State).
I'm curious to know if coaches with lower salaries can supplement their income with stipends from baseball equipment manufacturers, or by other means, and by how much. I feel for the guys who are struggling to raise their families on what amounts to a relative pittance.
