Disagree. Looks more like he has an agenda. One of our own HSBBW posters sons name is mentioned in the article and I would venture to guess that he is not a "spoiled brat". I realize they might have more trouble recruiting than most programs, but Army and Navy are getting it done.
This quote from the coach is enlightening.
quote:
“We didn’t have what we’d call good leaders on the team,” Hutcheon said. “Guys weren’t trained to be good leaders. We were trying to train guys to lead and how to take leadership in a proper way."

Guys (cadets) aren't being trained to be good leaders at AFA? What is he thinking?
I don't see this as a coach issue. He has an agenda and that is to clean up a program that is in a mess.
The ballplayers who quit and or organized a mutiny to me show lack of discipline and should have played the year out. You don't quit, you don't conspire against the coach you finish the year and move on if you have to.
Often when a new manager in a business comes in he will get rid of some senior people who ar not falling in line. This could be part of his agenda.
Don't know the whole story but it appears the problem existed befor the coach came.
very sad

the guy is a classless hack without a shred of honesty or dignity messing with our servicemen.

it will take the next coach yrs to get the program back on track when he's done "cleaning up the program"

*note - his roster is NOT filled with transfers from the Miami football team - his cadets are some pretty elite guys who have been rigorously screened for admission to the academy

jmo

I gotta admire his igenuity in dealing with his captains quitting the team every year Smile

NO MORE CAPTAINS!

I have to agree with Bee> on this one....

Lets see... this guy's primary responsibility is to teach leadership at a Military Academy?

There were more conspiracies and excuses for failure in this story than I think I have ever heard.

Anybody ever see the movie "The Caine Mutiny" ?

The guy reminded me of Humphrey Bogart's character Captain Queeg where everyone was out to get him and it was always someone elses fault. He has had his four years to bring in his guys and they are still the worst program in the nation. I agree, look at Army's program for example and almost all the excuses evaporate except for one - the coach.

I was being sarcastic...These are the future guys are who we are trusting to protect our nation's security. We (taxpayers) are paying for these guys to be leaders. He should not be forcing his religious beliefs on them, it is not what they signed up for.
Even if what is said about the coach is true that doesn't excuse players conspiring and mounting a campaigne to get the coach fired. Buckle down, finish the season and get released. If you want to go after the coach do it after the season.
Players are supposed to do their due diligence and if it doesn't workout move on
If my son did that I would be furious with him. Finish your commitmEnt regardlEss of what a jerk you think the coach is. To m thEsE guys havE donE thEmselvEs more harm than good. If I were a coach at another college I wouldn't touch them with a 10 ft pole.

it's not that simple -
the academy situation is unique in that those guys are NOT there to play ball, they are there to become officers & airmen - - where could they go? the RCMP hockey team? eh?

perplexing that top brass is backing him tho, but it sounds like they have their own issues to deal with as well

ps - bblhd, you got excited & spillEd coffEE on your kEyboard & now your E kEy is brokE Roll Eyes

I'm with the majority on this. I see this as a classic coaching problem. The coach says this isn't about winning ----duh. What else could he say with a record like that? Lip service is all that is. He's gotten one thing right; this IS a leadership problem ---- but let's place the blame squarely on the shoulders of the leader --- THE COACH. Just like the fiasco the other night in the FIU/Miami football game; the brunt of the blame lies with the coaches. It just manifested itself through the players. Many parents and coaches have to deal with A thug or A problem child or A player with a bad attitude but when the majority of the children in the family or all the players on the team act poorly, we obviously have a parenting or a coaching problem. Follow a classroom full of kids around that stay together as a unit during the school day. They act great in some classes and some classed they act poorly. The only thing that changed is the teacher.
I say FIRE the coach! Send him away to the tune of:
” Off we go into the wild blue yonder,
Climbing high into the sun;
Here they come zooming to meet our thunder,
At ‘em boys, Give ‘er the gun! (Give ‘er the gun now!)
Down we dive, spouting our flame from under,
Off with one helluva roar!
We live in fame or go down in flame. Hey!
Nothing’ll stop the U.S. Air Force!

If the article respresents the situation then this is a sad, sad reflection on many things we all hold dear...

I would like to know just exactly what the administration is thinking? I would hold them as, or in this case, more responsible than the coach. How can they sit by for YEARS and simply let this go on?

I know two excellent baseball recruits they had, who changed course and went to Navy instead...I always wondered...I guess now we know...gotta do your homework...

It sounded to me like this coach is the admins solution to the ongoing problem. Moving on at the end of the year is the right way to deal with this situation. He sounds like a henchman who has been hired to cull the bad apples and may have gone overboard. His past history seemed to be good. may have thought the religion may have brought some of them around.
If he is so bad it is strange that the admin would support him.

Like I said we may not have the real story...

...but the real mystery in the thing for me is the quality and character of the players at a service academy. These kids are not there because they can play ball, they are there there because they are some of the best and brightest that our country can produce. The entrance requirements are extreme...not just grades and test scores...and/or baseball skills, but...character references...long nterviews with former academy graduates...and congressional, representative or vice presidential nominations forheavensakes! With no disrespect to other players out there, These are by no means your average D1 baseball players. These are our best and brightest, our future leaders.

Bad Apples?
