Wondering what the NCAA rule is, if any, with regard to a HS kid getting private lessons from a college assistant coach or player on a regular/paid basis. Obviously you can attend school sponsored camps with college coaches in attendence, but can a kid take regular lessons at a college during high school?

No ill intent, or agenda in asking, I'm just wondering if there are any guidelines that apply.

Thanks!

Bee,
I don't believe that rule is applicable to the question here. That rule applies to the student/athlete recieving compensation for giving lessons.
So an athlete can give lessons, but a coach can't. I guess this doesn't apply to the camps? Or does it fall into the official visit vs. unofficial visit realm for coaches.

My understanding: A kid can contact a coach and make unlimited unofficial visits to campus during contact periods and quiet periods, yes? But the coach can't visit the kid off campus until Sr year during contact period. Lessons don't fall somewhere in this area of unofficial visits/contact?

confusing.
I've searched through the NCAA regulations and found the following:

13.11.3.7 Private Lessons-Women's Golf and Equestrian Exception. An institution’s women’s golf
and equestrian coaches may teach private lessons to a prospective student-athlete in their respective sports, provided
the following conditions are met: (Revised: 4/28/05 effective 8/1/05)
(a) The prospective student-athlete resides within a 50-mile radius of the institution’s main campus;
(b) The coach makes lessons available to the general public;
(c) In women’s golf, lessons are only provided to female prospective student-athletes and the coach is a teaching
professional certified pursuant to the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) and/or Professional
Golf Association (PGA) certification program; (Revised: 4/28/05 effective 8/1/05)
(d) Fees charged to the prospective student-athlete are at a rate commensurate with fees charged to all individuals;
(e) Fees charged to the prospective student-athlete are not paid by individuals or entities other than the prospective
student-athlete or his or her parent or legal guardian; and
(f ) The institution keeps on file in the office of the director of athletics documentation of the fee charged for
the lessons and the name of any individual receiving any portion of the fee.

Note that this regulation said "Exception." I assume that private lessons are prohibited for other sports. Strangely enough, however, I could not find the topic of private lessons for other sports addressed anywhere in the NCAA regulations.
