Congrats on your son's fine season with Penn State...what does the playoff scenario look like??

We have been lucky freshman Mom's...Our team won the Northeast 10 conference yesterday and when my husband phoned to congratulate him the night BEFORE finals......there was NO answer!
Not good..understandable, however. manrunning
What does the playoff picture look like? Good question....we are currently in a three-way tie for first with Ohio State and Minnesota. We still have 3 Big-10 series left to play vs. Ohio State, Michigan and Michigan State. So, alot of season still left to play. Hopefully, they will stay tough and finish out well. This year has been a real learning experience for him....he's definetly learned how to pick the splinters out of his "Schnizzle" biglaugh with the limited amount of playing time he's getting. But, it is to be expected when there is a returning senior catcher ahead of you. There is great camraderie among the team and he has definetly found the right fit for himself. He just LOVES the big university atmosphere! Hopefully, he can learn as much as he can from this freshman experience and come back as a contributing sophomore next year.

Chill...congrats to your son on his teams excellent season. Looks like the future is going to bring bigger and better things for him. Also, congrats to your daughter and the U of New Hampshire! applaude

PAmom...we'll take all the mojo you can send. And it only has a short distance to travel from your home to State College too!

All you moms of high schoolers....enjoy! enjoy! enjoy! Gosh, I even miss having to launder those uniforms every night! Wink Can't wait for the kid to get home!

Hi Ladies -

Our college season ended on Saturday. Happily we still have high school baseball to keep us busy. On the college front....

Good news and bad news. The bad news -- the team didn't have a very good year. The good news -- as a result our freshman pitcher got to pitch quite a bit.

And, yep, if I thought I had PMS in high school.... well, in college it's really bad. His first intense pitching situation (coming in from the bullpen with bases loaded) I don't think I took a breath. He was SO nervous he could hardly throw the ball (and this is a kid who is known for poise on the mound).

A couple of freshman observations. First, it was a big transition to go from a starter to a reliever. Mostly for the pitchers, but we also heard about it from the other guys who came in to pinch hit. These are new roles for guys who have been playing every day on their high school teams.

Our freshman had the blessing to be able to call his high school pitching coach who is a former major league relief pitcher to talk pitching strategy, warm-up routine and setting up hitters when you're relieving and probably only going through the line-up once. Mentally, it was a substantial learning curve. After his first couple of appearances he learned that he could play with college guys -- and had confidence when he took the mound.

School wise, we were surprised that his spring grades were better than fall, even with baseball. He figured out the routine, adjusted his study habits and did better. I also think the baseball discipline forced him to allocate his time and plan! He knew he had to study early in the week with Friday and Saturday games.

For us, it was difficult. He came home Easter Sunday -- other than that, no other visits since February because of baseball. He's about 2 hours away). We really missed him even though we stayed and spent some time with him after games --it's not the same as having him home!

On the high school front -- doing really well and should be playing when play-offs roll around.

Best to everyone,

Mays

Hi Girlfriends!

This Freshman year has flown by! I am enjoying reading about how the year went for all of our 03's.

Our son is on the quarter system...so his last day of class is June 11th. The team still has 14 regular season games to play and hopefully many post season games too! 14 It has been a thrill for our 03' and the family too!

All of you with 04's out there! Enjoy them!

Matt's freshman year ended yesterday Frown

The school part of it worked out fine after Matt realized "that BASEBALL PLAYER'S do have to attend class" (after many miles of running Wink)

As far as baseball... it was a awesome year for him to mature and grow as a baseball player...The team had the best season they have had since the current coach has been there. Plus he has learned to play with competition on his tail buying for playing time. He also learned in college "good pitching shuts down good hitting" and if "you don't work you dont play"

Now I'm not sure I know how to act with him coming home and all, but I'm excited and trying to figure out where I'm gonna put and all this stuff!!! pull_hair

I didn't realize how much I had grown to care for his teammates... The sophmores are moving on and it was an emotional thing at yesterdays game when they all got in the vans for the last time as a TEAM. Frown

I hope he is as good of an example to the incoming freshman as this group of sophmores were to him!! 14
