Around here it's a given that if you can afford it at all you'll be pouring hundreds of dollars into your kids' baseball team via direct contribution, raffle tickets, discount cards, whatever. And if your kid has friends who wrestle, play football, golf, whatever,  you can counting on being hit up to support those teams too.

And that's all fine.

But I was  surprised to get an email blast the other day from one of my kid's ex-teammates from HS asking me to support his Juco baseball team. Really?  It continues at that level?  Oh well, he's great kid and a wonderful player so of course he got a few dollars from me. But heck, what's next, D1 players selling cookie dough door-to-door?

Son's d2  does fundraising... 1st week in players write 30 letters requesting donations for a 100 inning game played in the fall.

Each player has to sell 10 - 15 t shirts also ( Aunts Uncles and Cousins always somehow get a new shirt from us for the holidays)

They also sell a monthly lottery type ticket, my son was surprised last year when I made him eat ten tickets on his own, usually I sell some for him, but he waited until the day before he was to return to school after Christmas break to tell me he still had 10 left, my holiday spirit was over, he fortunately ended up winning on one and recouped his investment.

For both JuCo and D2 son had to provide at least 10 addresses of possible donors that would receive letters requesting donations.

The D2 has an alumni game in the fall that is a big fund raiser.

They also have a booster membership with different levels.  The more given, the more "gifts" or benefits the donor receives.

Got a similar request a few days ago from local JC. Family friend so, I guess if you have the dough, go for it. Fully funded DI programs still do fan, family & alumni fundraising. Local JC doesn't have the fan base so email begging from family & friends works best.
