Ours left home yesterday and, after 26 hours door-to-door, will arrive at his destination. I hope he got some good sleep! It was so much fun having him home -- and Seoul even had record snowfall while he was here, so we had a couple good days of sledding around on the hills to boot! Now, we anxiously await the start of the 2010 season which starts Feb 6th.

I hope you had, or are having, a great time with your sons while they're home for the holidays!

Krak- I always think of you and your family when I'm feeling sorry for myself with son 1000 miles from home. We took son to airport this morning. It's harder to say good-bye when we know he won't be home for 8 months because of summer ball starting as soon as the college season ends.

Sounds like you had a great visit with your son. We also are excited for the 2110 season to start and yet...it's already going so fast that I want to savor all the time he has left in college.

I still read collegeconfidential.com and there is a similar thread there about college kids returning to school and how much we will miss them. What really puts it into perspective is a parent that is sending their son off to the Middle East. So we are just lucky ours are off to college.
CaBB, I hear ya. When we got home from the drop-off, I went off by myself downstairs and stood blubbering at the window overlooking the park where we did all this sledding cry ! Hard to believe he left here 22 hours ago and still has four hours of travel ahead as we speak. His plane just landed in Houston as a matter of fact.

I won't see him again until late June, then we plan to watch him play lots of summer collegiate in our home-state neck of the woods. Wife is going to run the Austin Marathon five weeks from now, so she'll spend about a week with him and catch a couple of early-season games.

Just last night, junior son and I sat down and started looking at some schools he might be interested in. Jeez, here we go again.... cry It's going to get awfully quiet around here sooner than I want to accept!
My guy just finished packing his bags; we are off to the airport as soon as I finish typing this entry. He gets back to school at midnite. I asked him who would pick him up so late; his response was "there will be lots of guys, midnite is still early."

Evidently practice does not start until Monday; not like they were told before the holiday. Oh well what can you do.

It is hard to believe that there are less than 30 days until the first game.
Our only daughter just packed up to drive back to USC. Los Angeles is about a six-hour drive from Phoenix. This will be the second time she has made the trip by herself, although she is a junior (we did not get her a car until last summer and her mother drove out with her at the start of the fall semester). She will be in Costa Rica for Spring Break and will be at USC for summer school -- so with youngest son's senior season of high school baseball coming up, we will not see her much for awhile.

It is always hard to say good by, but exciting for her.

Krakatoa -- and I mean this only in the best way -- you really need to move.
Juniors Christmas break was 14 days, which is the longest he's been home since last Christmas and the most he'll be home until next Christmas. He's been back at school for a week now, and they decided to have a full day of classes today, on Saturday, to boot.

The good news, is that he's gotten the green light to play summer ball between his junior and senior years and his team is a mere three hours from home. Cool
Krak - I also think of your situation when I'm missing mine and he is only 31/2 hours away. We had him for almost 3 weeks and it felt great getting to throw BP with him again.
Although, it felt as bad as it did in early fall when he left for the first time. We all teared up when he told his sister he probably would not be home until the end of summer. Unfortunately, he left early (last Monday) to be on campus for the National Championship game and to get an early start on workouts. (Can't say I blame him)
I will get to see him this Saturday,16th (my birthday), since our travel team will be in Tuscaloosa for a camp. This will be a long week!
The Good news is that he is very happy, healthy, and living a dream. In the end, that makes it all very gratifying.
I wish all a very good year, with a prayer and a "thank you" for all that are fighting for our freedom and safety. We all want you Home as soon as possible.
Funny Krak, I was just thinking about this yesterday, kids are heading back to school and very soon, baseball season will be upon us.
Ours went faraway, but I can't imagine how tough it must be for you Krak! But he is in a good place!

Best of luck to all of your college players, have a great season!
Grabsomepine- where will your son be playing in CA this summer? How great he'll be closer to home.

Correction: I just checked mileage to son's school, only 700 miles! That makes me feel so much better.

As tough as it is to have the kids far from home I think they tend to grow up faster being away. It's also great for them to broaden their horizons by meeting kids from all over. Before too long we'll be talking about the season so good luck to all!
From the NY region to Las Cruces--one day in the air each each---his roomie was from Denver--he spent Thanksgivings with he and his family in Denver---a lot better than losing two days in the air to get home and back--came home for Xmas but was back on campus before New Years getting ready with the team in unofficial workouts preparing for the start of official practice the second week in January

I guess every parent takes it differently but we had no tears or trepidation
My son went back today. I am very fortunate that its a mere 35 minute drive to the campus. Its nice to have them home and get to spend some time doing things together. My son was very eager to get back to school and start getting ready for the season. Several of his team mates met him at his room when he got back. All very excited to get back together and get started on a new year.

Now I am going to sit back and watch the Eagles take care of business!
Son went back to school a day early (Wednesday) to beat the bad weather coming into Nashville. Good thing he took my advise. Snow came in the next day.

Today was their 1st day of h e ll week. He called and said that he was one of only 7 who didn't puke during everything they had to do. He called me a few hours later to tell me that he "lost" it after he got into the bathroom in his apt! LOL. He said he was just glad he didn't lose it WHILE they were working out! I guess it's a pride thing.

I also think of you and your boy Krak when I get to thinking about my son being away only a few hours. I'm glad you guys had a great time while he was home.

Wow, I feel lucky , son home until the weekend. then gone til Aug. Going to be tough on his little brother and younger sister. The three of them have been having a great time together. We hope to see him a couple times this spring and summer ( 9 hrs. away). It`s hard when your other kids have their things to do. Guess it`s all a part of letting them grow up.
