I was just wondering if it was common place for a University to request to see a kid pitch this time of year or is it common bc things have settled down and they have the time. Also, does it say a lot about the kid they are coming to see, btw he is a 2016 and it is a big D1. Thanks.

I would think it can only be good. Sounds like they will come see him throw at a Fall game/tourny?
We're finding it is very common for coaches to request players at their camps (at their convenience) this time of year. We're also seeing a number of coaches at Fall showcase events even though they are having internal scrimmages back at their school. So, I guess they have some time to scout & recruit.
Your scenario may differ if the coach is making arrangements to come see your son pitch at an event. I would take that as a very positive sign, and sincere interest. JMO.
As more commitments happen earlier this is the type of thing you will see. Sounds to me like a positive sign that this coach would like to see and maybe lock up a 2016 early.
Lefthookdad - It's my son's teamate. The other interesting thing is that the coaches are coming to watch him throw in a barn/shed which adds to the romance of the story. Thanks for the replies and confirming my thoughts that it was very positive and that there must be a high level of interest.

Interesting. A new activity is born from this...barnstorm recruiting?
Wow...that's impressive. Not a lot of coaches will make the trip to see a young kid throw in a building. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say he's a Lefty.....6'2 and somewhere around 175....throwing 85-86 already????
His is a righty, around 6'2-6'3 not sure of weight (slender) and recently was on the gun consistantly throwing 87 and touched 89 with good control during tryout (not a game).
