not going to lie, I WILL be completely bias, if you want THE BEST ACADEMIC college in new jersey and ONE of the top d3 baseball schools in NJ go to The College of New Jersey. Academically you WILL NOT find a better school (yes, I would like to find someone to challenge me on that). Baseball wise, TCNJ has been in the top of the conference for I can't count how many years and running now. They HAD a very young team the last two years and did very well, its going to be scary what they will be able to do with a more experienced team the up coming years.
Academically the only school that can beat TCNJ is Princeton, which says a lot. TCNJ scrimmages Princenton every year during a fall double header, which usually ends up in a split. The NJCAC (regardless of which d3 school you chose) is THE best d3 baseball conference in the country, yeah you can challenge me on that too. Even if you don't chose TCNJ, the NJAC is most likely the best conference when it comes to D3 baseball. If I had to chose a secondary school from NJ it would be in this order: Kean Rider (****ty academics) Montclair Monmouth
Even though I might have been bias, I hope this info will have proved helpful.
PS.....If you have any more questions about colleges in NJ please let me know, I CAN offer you a non biased approach
I appreciate your passion for NJ baseball and recommendaton for TCNJ. It is certainly worthy of further research as my middle son (HS Soph) starts looking at programs.
I find it interesting that Rutgers and Seton Hall have not been menitioned or suggested so far.
I will disagree with you that NJAC is the best D3 baseball conference in the country. In looking at the schools in the conference, their results and schedules I come to a different conclusion. I'm not biased, but it appears SUNYAC, NESCAC, ODAC, Centennial are deeper and overall more successful conferences nationally.
I know that Coach Bradley at Princeton, when he was talking to kids at his camp about programs they played/scrimmaged, had nothing but good things to say about TCNJ, acknowledging as well that they pretty much split every year. Of course it's probably important to keep in mind that in a 2 game series the depths of each team don't play out as much, so more even battles can generally be expected, even if teams aren't necessarily evenly rife with talent.
I have a friend who committed to Seton Hall this summer over several other programs in the Northeast; the facilities, the campus feel, and the fact that it was Big East (though he was offered by a bunch of NE programs Seton Hall was the only BE in the mix at the time of his commitment) all sold the school to him. I don't think Seton Hall does too well in BE baseball overall (and Rutgers is more of a middling team though overall stronger) but overall the caliber of baseball is a high one.
Love the classes Rutgers has recruited the last 2 years (2010 and 2011) they should make some noise over the next couple of years as well as being a very good academic choice. TCNJ is a hidden gem (academics and baseball). There are several other NJAC schools such as Kean, Rowan, and Montclair State that have done well over time. The NJAC is definitely a top D3 conference nationally. Monmouth University competes well annually in the NEC and occasionally makes a regional appearance.
