The Florida Collegiate Summer League has created a Collegiate Development League, separate from the seven FCSL teams. The CDL operates under the FCSL umbrella, and is designed for baseball players that are interested in developing their baseball skills as well as learning about baseball at the college level. With all games played in Central Florida, the CDL allows players to: procure summer jobs, take summer classes, workout locally, minimize travel to games, and experience college level baseball near home.
The Players
CDL players have completed their senior year of high school or their freshman year of college, and will be playing college baseball in the fall of 2008.
The Coaches
CDL coaches are experienced college and high school coaches.
The Teams
The CDL consists of four teams with 16 players on each. Teams will compete against each other as well as play exhibition games against FCSL teams and several local travel teams. Please note that participation in the CDL does not guarantee future placement on an FCSL team.
The Schedule
These teams will play 20 to 25 games during May, June and July of 2008. The season will finish with a tournament and scout showcase.
Why the CDL
The CDL provides young college players the opportunity of playing time against solid competition. For the graduated high school seniors committed to playing college baseball, the CDL is a chance to play against college level competition, to learn what it takes to succeed at the next level. Players will work with college strength and conditioning coaches, and hear about the college baseball environment from NCAA compliance officers, college academic advisors, and local college coaches.
How to Register
To register for the CDL, please contact Coach Wolfe of the FCSL at dwolfe@floridaleague.com, or call the FCSL office at 321-206-9174. The cost is $500 per player, which includes uniform (to be returned after the season), shorts, t-shirt, hat, belt, socks.
