Over the past several weeks, I have followed the DIII West Regional where Trinity, Tx. made it to the final game and lost by one run, followed the DIII CWS where nearly every game was a nail biter, including the two games for the Championship, and then spent the last 3 days at the Stanford Regional.
For those who didn't follow this, Stanford lost a very good game Friday night, and then won the next 4 in a row out of the loser's bracket to move on to the Super Regional. They had very good pitching and hit the heck out of the ball. With that said, they got a few breaks to overcome a very, very good team from UC Davis and today, Pepperdine. What a fun weekend at Sunken this was. Seven terrific games, very good teams and terrific players in a wonderful venue.
On the East Coast, I get to follow the play of CD's son at Coastal, where the strength and conditioning coach is a good friend from my son's days in DIII baseball.
On the West Coast, I get to follow justbb's son, Erik Davis and the Stanford team. They are a great example this year of what college baseball is about.
In between, I am watching TV to see Bullwinkle's son and that terrific squad from Irvine.
Tonight, I am watching UCLA and CSU hoping for a UCLA win so I can watch a Super Regional next weekend at Stanford.
On the radio tonight, I learned the Stanford players will start finals on Thursday and have them extend through the Super Regional. Many will also face the anxiety of the draft on Wed./Thurs.
You recognize the load that college baseball imposes on a player and the joy with which they play the game and you realize it is just great fun...for the fans.
For the players, it is an unbelievable work load, filled with memories they will not forget.
