thanks for sharing that.... can you restate your post heading to: "Comments from Oregon Coach Horton on recruiting"? Most people won't know who Horton is unless they know Pac baseball.... only a suggestion.
Sounds good, but don't you think Horton is a bit idealistic? We'd all like to think our local big baseball coach's or scouts will just pick up the phone and call Horton about a gem. And most colleges don't have the budgets to travel all over. Makes sense they go to a few camps or tourneys to see kids. What we really need is for more people to join a website like this to get educated well before high school. The wisdom here will save them a lot of money avoiding too many camps, and putting together a realistic recruiting game plan.
It would also be great if the MLB & NCAA would dictate no showcases or tourney's Nov-Jan for HS kids. Protect arms, save money, get stronger, take a break, go on a family vacation.
Thanks again for posting..
MLB and the NCAA don't have jurisdiction over private business and high school athletes. There's nothing wrong with the parents of a high school player utilizing common sense.
Agree with RJM. Problem is when my little Johnny hits a flare to right that happens to drive in the winning run, my common sense goes out the window.
