And another, w/ key paragraph:

quote:
It’s a dog-eat-dog world. It’s chaotic,” former Big East commissioner Mike Tranghese told host Chris Russo on Mad Dog Radio. “The presidents took over college athletics in 1990. You would think there would be integrity and loyalty and responsibility and congeniality. Those words don’t even exist."

Jones fan-just football. When you're a Hokie fan, there's football, and then there's everything else. We root and cheer for other sports, but truth be known, only one really rouses the blood...unless you have a kid playing.

I wouldn't call ACC football "awful", but certainly Miami and Florida State being AWOL for 3-4 years hasn't helped the image of strong football.

I like the geographic connection of the schools, sans Miami and Boston College, but I guess travel budgets don't much matter anymore.

Yep. Other reports today (what a mess):

* Big East was on the verge of adding Navy before Pitt and Syracuse left.

* Oklahoma has made one last ditch set of demands to stay in the Big 12, including firing the current commissioner.

* Mizzou got an SEC invitation.

* Remaining Big East football schools meeting in NY tonight to consider next steps. Reported to be a 'who's in and who's not' meeting. UConn did not sent their president, a proxy instead.

I like the following quote by someone surrounding the Big East meeting tonight:

"Instead of looking each other in the eye, what they should all do is turn on their cell phones and show who they've been talking to and texting with," one official said. Cool

Hokie, does anyone really care much about any sport but football?

Boy, this is just ridiculous. Remain in your conferences and try to make them better, jumping ship doesn't always help. Then again, you are talking $$$$.

Wow I'm just getting home and getting connected back with the real world after having to play a football game tonight. There was a lot of stuff happening today.

I'm going out on a small limb here and say that no matter who joins the Big East or leaves they will lose their automatic BCS bid. The best teams right now who are still there are WVU, South Florida and TCU coming in and none of them are serious title contenders. I think WVU and South Florida will be if they can keep their coaches seeing how they are in year one and two respectively but right now they will use their recent history to keep them out of the BCS mix.
Pac-12 issues statement tonight saying they will not expand.

Pac-12's Larry Scott “we have determined that it is in the best interests of our member institutions ... to remain a 12-team conference."

I say, good for them! Sanity prevails.

Big East said to be considering adding Navy, Air Force and maybe Army...ECU and UCF also possibilities.

Something 'good' to me about bringing the service academies into a BCS conference...and I hope that somehow helps them to maintain that status. Just a 'patriotic' sort of feeling in me...seems like one of the few potential good outcomes.

Good work, igball. Cool

Villanova doesn't get the call

The Big East source confirmed that Villanova was one of several Big East schools to apply for membership in the ACC, but that overture was turned down because of the status of the school’s football program.

Roger that. Hokie Hokie Hokie High!

I'd still say ACC is awful. . .this year we seem to have some hope. But until this year, it's pretty much been our Hokies with an occasional flare up of decent play from the Yellow Jackets. I think that VA Tech seems to play up or down to the competition and as the ACC has grown weaker so have we. I'm hoping the ACC adds some legitimate football talent.

Syracuse and Pitt make little sense to me. Neither school is close to good in football, and as a consequence, they have no *** appeal.
