I would like to cograts to Blake. I would also like to Congratulate two DBAT boys for being drafted on the first day. Brandon Workman and Will Middlebrooks.

I'd too like to congratulate Blake on this step and the opportunity to compete against him. Also, I'd like to thank him for what he said during the interview in the BORING Ranger game... he knows what I'm talking about. It made my day.

Congratulations to BB and his family. I'm sure everything they've sacrificed over the years has been more then worth it.

I'm excited that the Rangers took a local boy! He should bring a certain amount of ownership and pride to the team having grown up in their back yard.

I know the Collikar family is very proud and happy for BB...and now we get to say, "I remember when he pitched on the Coyotes in Steamboat..."

As for Dtiger and the interview, I didn't hear it, but I'd venture to say BB paid his respect to KM's win against the Tigers when they were facing one another.

Well I would just like to say for Blake, Bill & Myself; Thank you "HS BB Web" folks for all the well wishes! WOW, It is 3am in the morning and I have not even gone to bed yet! I just now have had a moment to sit down look and my email and look at HS Web and saw all of your nice comments.

Yes, it was a lot of sacrifice and committment but I would not take away 1 minute of it for today!

Always remember you are in the public eye with the media.

Never say something you might regret later.

And using the word "retarded" ain't a good idea, even if it is refering to that goofy hat.

I agree with Ken -- and I suppose the word "ain't" will project a good ol' down-home image -- although Blake may be too young for country witticisms.

Blake is getting a little ripped right now on BAD Radio on The Ticket about some of his comments. Yesterday and last night.

Wasn't just a little ripped...they scorched him for fifteen minutes. Played his negative comments about the Rangers being bad over and over again. They would pause the sound bites for effect and then laugh about it before moving on to the next sound bite.

I happened to be up last night and listened to that whole press conf. those reporters sat him up. They asked him as a fan only how hard is it to watch the Rangers struggle. His reply was its tough to watch a team to go through that. His comments we very mild, but as usual they take stuff out of context and put the spin on it to get people fired up. And on his interview with the Hardline they asked him about his nasty slider. He did say he thought he had a good slider but it was from 4 years of hard work. But what would you want him to say? His slider sucks and play down his ability. Personally I would rather have a kid that is confident. There is a very very fine line between confidence and cockiness and I think he is on the confident side of that line.

More Blake B talk on The Ticket right now

I heard the conversations on the radio and was a little unhappy. I too heard what he said and realized how out of context they were taken. Yes he's confident, and yes he needs to watch what he says (who doesn't?), but no he wasn't out of line. I agree, the hat was funny...

And we wonder why professional players don't want to talk to the media....

It's time for the radio shows to cut him some slack...

Quick, someone give me a hand... I am trying to get BB's foot out of his mouth... if he even realizes it is in there....

I heard it all day today on my way to the Tiger-Dbat game. Bottom line, Dallas is one of the top media centers in the country. If you are an athlete and you breath, someone is going to know about it. Everything these clowns on the Ticket said about Blake is borderline slander. I don't listen to that station because I know most of them have never worn a jock in their life. They and the DMS have to sell airtime and papers and that's how they do it-by assuming stuff-they are complete idiots. Blake is a great kid. His parents are great people. OK-I vented--that being said--in my humble opinion-he could use some better representation on the professional side--no way this happens if he is properly represented. No--I am not looking for business-I have more than I can handle-I, like other people in my profession, that look at this site know what I am talking about. Oh-one more thing-my comment about the Ticket does not apply to Norm or Jub Jub!

You know, I've never met the kid or his parents -- and I think you all know from reading my opinions that I admire his athletic skill and his baseball abilities......but.....I just wish someone/anyone! would ask him to be quiet -- or to speak with a bit of humility. No one in his family saw this coming? No one in his camp has learned a lesson or two along the way? It's not about confidence.

I will trust those of you that know him. I will give him the benefit of the doubt when it comes to being a good kid. But....does anyone think this will be the last criticism when it comes to his public manner?

I will follow his career with great interest, like the others in this area that are playing professionally. I suppose it's a good thing that he is playing in an American League city.

I saw Blake pitche twice this season, and I believe that all the hype is justified. On that note, I also listened to what the Ticket said about him, and was greatly amused. Slander-----no way. I like what the guys at Bad Radio said "We wish he could have been a little more awe shucks, like John Danks was." Blake will expierence a little dose of humility when he gets lit up in rookie or A ball, but it is refreshing to see a kid thats not just a little but a lot cocky.

I just hope that the esteemed John Daniels doesn't trade him away like he did with Danks.

Well once again, I appreciate the folks who know Blake and know that he would not just say those things without being naively (sp?) provoked by the "Good Ol Dallas Morning News". Man they can set you up so big!!! well it aint even funny anymore. I told Blake the other day, that he is now like a "Paris Hilton" of the DFW Metroplex and he is going to have to watch every little thing he does................ Because everyone is watching and listening.

Just to get the record straight to the few folds who were not at our house on draft day. We had 2 TV stations there and Channel 11 was one of them and the DMN reporter and website broadcaster was also there at the actual moment of selection.

The news guys said, and I quote, "So Blake, How does it feel to be selected by the Home Town Team, the Texas Rangers, and by the way, they have the worst record in the American League and, Oh, they also have the worst ERA ever recorded in the major leagues? Well you guys know the next statement; Well I can do as bad as those guys! Well, we will just chalk it up to the age 18, caught up in the moment of exitement and the downplay of the media to Blake's pridefull (sp?) home town team that has just been bad this year!

He really does speak well in front of cameras, he just has to be carefull of the snakes that just lay their in the grass waiting for a moment to trip you up. Kind of like that nasty a__ slider that he is proud of. Well, I am sounding like a typical mother protecting her young, so I will get off my box.

He is the very 1st ever locally selected HS Pitcher to the Texas Rangers and he will have to overcome a lot of stuff like this and a whole more.

Thank GOD, they give you a little bit of "Media" training during your Minor League experiences.

Yes, the media will actually put words into his mouth, or cut a quote to make it play better than the real quote in context.

You might even invest in some private media training before he gets to the minors....to where he doesn't immediately get branded with a stereotype.

Congrats again to Blake!!! We are all hoping for big things from him!!

If he'll occasionally call in to the Ticket and talk about flatulence or over-cuss the overcusser, he'll be their favorite

Just stay away from "you know" or he'll be the next Roger Pavlik.

Good Advice on getting media training, for him and maybe some of the family since there has been more than this snag w/the media i.e. the article in the DMN about the Beavan Newsletter.

Also, you might want to consider having Blake trademark his Finger Flashing "K" sign.........something else he can claim fame to.
