Davidson, in its first-ever NCAA tournament appearance, is in the super-regional, winning all three of its games so far, including two wins over UNC.

Yale beat the Big 10 champs (Nebraska) and Patriot League champs (Holy Cross), but couldn't beat the no. 1 team in the country: http://yalebulldogs.com/sports...eases/20170605142k4a

Incredible.  I still can't believe little Davidson beat blue blood UNC.....TWICE!

I was watching the Davidson/UNC game on my laptop as I was also watching the Louisville/Xavier game on my TV. That Xavier team is pretty darn good and scrappy.   It was as if I couldn't get enough college baseball this weekend. It appeared to me that UNC was not willing to accept their defeat at the end.  Incredible cliff hanging plays to get the last two outs for Davidson.   The second out was a play at home plate and the last out was a nailbiter that stretched the Davidson 1st baseman as far as he could go.

Yale and Holy Cross both got the opportunity to take on a Big 10 team and walk away with a 'W".  Congrats to both of them.

This is truly what I love about college athletics.  The little guy taking it to "the man".

As much as it hurt me to see my team get knocked out I have to congratulate Davidson for their performance. They simply outplayed UNC in both games. In their last 2 games they gave up a total of 2 runs. I was extremely impressed with Xavier. That was a very good team. They gave Louisville all they could handle.

The Louisville/Xavier game was the best game I watched all weekend.  Back and forth throughout the entire game.  Every other game seemed to turn into a blowout.

Congrats to Davidson!

A commentator mentioned it was "Davidson vs Goliath".

I'm not sure if you saw the bases loaded "whip around" but there were several games last night that were back and forth. It was a very exciting day for college baseball fans.

I would have bet someone $10,000 if they suggested 3 months ago that UNC's season would end earlier than Yale's.  Only by a few hours, I realize, but still.  (I did not know Davidson's roster at all, but I probably would have made the same bet there, too...congrats to both).

I would have made the same bet 48 hours ago.

My 2017 and I were very fortunate to spend some time with the Davidson coaches and players earlier in the year.  They are a bunch of good dudes.  True student athletes at a place that values your brain as much as your athletic ability.  My son ended up going in a different direction, but happy I got to know those guys and we're pulling hard for them to get to Omaha.

This is college baseball, a good Cinderella story, however no one is talking about the 250+ pitches the Davidson pitcher threw to get into the tourney and the other 100+ this past weekend.

Pitcher ( sorry forgot his name), said he didnt care if his arm fell off.

Coach gets a full pass on this one. Sorry. At the risk of being politically incorrect (or Old School), not all circumstances are the same. The young man will be in pharma school in a couple months (pretty sure that is the player to which you refer) and will probably never throw again. It won't impact his life if he has a sore arm for a few weeks. Even worst case, if he damages his UCL, won't matter. My son just had TJ. One of the top 3 TJ surgeons in the US told us point blank that if he did not aspire to continue as a competitive pitcher, then there was no need to worry about a damaged UCL (over the course of one's life). I threw a ton my senior year in college years ago and had the same mentality as this kid. My coach embraced it, too. I threw a complete game on Saturday and came back and got a save the next day vs. our arch rival. Great memory for me. Arm soreness all these years later? Not so much. This is his 15 minutes of fame. Did not mean to divert the discussion away from the topic at hand....an incredible weekend for Davidson and all affiliated with that great institution. All eyes will be on them next weekend!
