Jamie Moyer is Heading to Cooperstown

After a couple of hard-luck starts, 49+ year old Jamie Moyer became the oldest Pitcher to win a game in Major League history last night. Jamie Moyer is the Patron Saint of the soft-tossing lefty, and SP_son says that if he can make it to 300 wins he will personally make it his life mission to have the Vatican recognize Moyer with actual sainthood ... for that will be at least his 3rd confirmed miracle.

Jamie Moyer should be an inspiration to every kid (from 5 to 65) who loves the game, and plays for the love of the game. He should particularly be an inspiration for all those young players who do not "project" to have the tools to succeed in the game.

No secret, I am not a big fan of what I personally consider to be an overemphasis on scouting by stopwatch and radar gun. I understand it. I am just not a big fan of it. Until they change the rules to where they award runs and wins based on the fastest average team 60 time, or the highest average team FB velocity; I remain a fan of the guys who just seem to find a way to win games ... regardless of how glamorous they look in the process.

I am inspired by Jamie Moyer's perseverance and his love and respect for the game. SP_son is inspired when he sees a guy who has less "stuff" than him still pitching in the Major Leagues while approaching 50. I love to see the Jamie Moyer's, David Eckstein's, and other "low talent" guys make it in the show ... because they can inspire the "average" kids to keep chasing their dreams.

Congratulations Jamie Moyer ... and all you soft-tossing Lefties, keep chasing your dreams.
