Irving gains share of first in 7-5A
Jeffrey Stovall broke a tie with a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift the Irving baseball team to an 8-6 victory over South Grand Prairie on Tuesday.
Irving (11-6, 7-3) moved into a tie for first place with Duncanville in District 7-5A with the win. South Grand Prairie (19-7, 6-3) is a half-game back.
Irving trailed, 3-0, before scoring six runs in the bottom of the second. South Grand Prairie tied it, 6-6, with three runs in the fourth.
Stovall had two doubles and five RBIs, and he also earned the save by pitching a scoreless seventh inning.
Cruz Cervantes had a pair of hits for Irving, including a double. Jacoby Middleton homered for South Grand Prairie.

BASEBALL
James Baune, Rockwall-Heath: Pitched a three-hitter and struck out seven in a 3-1 win over Carrollton Newman Smith, which entered the game tied for first in District 10-4A.
Brett Byrum, Rowlett: Pitched a one-hitter and homered in a 13-2 win over North Garland.
Jacob Morris, Coppell: The Arizona State signee went 3-for-4 with a home run, four runs and two RBIs to lead Coppell (17-6-1, 10-0 District 6-5A) to a 7-5, nine-inning win over Southlake Carroll.
Jamen Parten, Plano: Pitched a two-hitter and struck out nine to lead Plano (15-6-1, 6-3 District 8-5A) to a 4-1 win over defending 5A state champion Plano West.
Cole Thompson, TCA-Addison: Pitched a three-hitter in a 3-1 win over Grapevine Faith Christian, the 2008 TAPPS 4A state champion
