I spoke with son's pitching coach (he is the recruiting coach)who is headed to FL this weekend to spend time with his family here. He told me he was looking forward to some R & R. For many D1 coaches who recruit, this is the only time they have off.

I would imagine a lot of them feel the same way. For many, it's the calm before the storm, back to coaching, back to recruiting. I personally would not make contact with any coach at this time. JMO.
What is a Holiday? I look at Xmas eve, Xmas, New years eve, New years day as holidays and those are "hands-off " days. If he's on "vacation" his phone should be off. If your looking at the academic winter break as a Holiday, I want that job with a month off.

If you are a signed recruit, a player, or a prospect whos been called by the coach on their time, and have a question that you needed answered and the coach says "call anytime", then call him. That is his job. If theres a problem at my work after hours they will call me, and I'm sure that holds true for anyone else out there.

Lets not put a coach on this "don't touch" pedistal worring about his upcoming season. That phone call is part of his future. This is not about a coach it is about your son. Now if you are calling him because no one else will talk to you.......... crazy ........I'd still think about calling him, not on those designated days, but that is his job, and part of his job description is to be available.

What if a coach is calling your son over the holidays? Different set of rules?

IMHO

a little twist to this contact issue.....
son is an 08. We are travelling (by car) from Northern VA to Ft. Myers for the PG Natl Underclass. Leaving NoVa on 12/26, arriving in Ft. Myers on 12/27.
We are thinking of "stopping by" some campuses my son is interested in along the I-95 corridor on the way down and back.
I realize schools are not in session right now. But is there any hurt in attempting to contact the coaches? We are at least trying to get a feel for some campuses......

Any comments are appreciated!

Call them !!!! the worst that happens is that you will get voice mail

Agree 100%.Also,it won't take but an hour or less to drive thru & see a campus, look at the field & get a 1st impression.Enjoy! Smile
Seems to me many of these schools have holiday camps. The head coach may not be around for the whole camp.but the recruiting coach is certain to be there. This is one of the last chances these college coaches will have to evaluate juniors before their season starts. If a coach doesn't want to answer the phone, they won't.
As far as vacation time, this time of year for Div1 recruiting coaches is about the only time they have off. Not necessarily a month, but a few weeks perhaps.
As I said, if a coach has given you his number, that's usually an invitation to call when you want. Remember, he cannot call you back unless you are an 07. So if you make the call and then fret about him not returning it, he can't.

jbbaseball,
As far as stopping in on your way, sounds like a good time to check out the campus.
