Dodger,

You have stated in the past that pitching staffs shouldn't be judged on numbers. You also have picked Coppell to win in the past so I don't think you are a SLC homer, I on the other hand am a Cowboy Zealot.

I am trying to understand this series and your calling for a SLC sweep seems a bit bold even for you.

How do you judge a pitching staff, specifically SLC's, for this series because the numbers don't show any advantage for SLC?

Last year the series went three games and it looks like about the same type of match-up for this year except that SLC has the better "noted" senior classs. I like the group of seniors Coppell has, "salty" is a good word to describe them.

Why SLC in 2?

Collikar,

I have to be careful because dodger doesn't do numbers.

But the numbers are fairly even.

Cunningham is like 8-2 and Stripling is 10-0, both have low era's 2.00 ish. The SLC closer is Toal and I think Haney might be their other starter.

For Coppell, Hermans is 9-1 with an era around 1 or under, Malone is 7-0, era at 1.70. The other starter is senior Erik Nieder (a lefty) and he got a lot of starts this year including some district start and is 3-1 with 30 innings of work, his first varsity loss came in the Flower Mound game. The Coppell closer is Kettler , 2-1 with 9 saves on 21+ innings and an under 1 ERA. Apple, a lefty, also came on in the Lamar game to throw well and get the save.

I have no idea what the match-ups will be and the coaches might not decided until game time.

Hawkman,

I'm looking forward to spending time with you this summer...I'm just not ready yet.

As for someone...dodge picking SLC in 2...I'm just looking for some insight into SLC that could help me enjoy watching the games a little more.

Actually, that said, you could offering some insight being that you watched Hawk's son team play the dreaded Dragon....any thoughts you can share...

See you soon...I just hope not to soon.

Come watch the game tomorrow night if you can.
ACowboyfan,

It took you longer to respond to my prediction than I thought!!!

First let me say that I do think SLC will win the series...the number, 2 wins, at lEAST one more than Coppell.

Second, your obsession with numbers is humorous. Do you watch the baseball game with a slide rule in your pocket? I don't know who the common opponets for SLC and COP are, but those would be the only relevant numbers, and then if it is only one team, not that relevant.

SLC is playing some of there best baseball right now! They have at least 6 pitchers that are more than serviceable! They DID NOT have bad losses toward the end of the season! They can hit 1-9! They don't have parents, on the message board, who get offended if someone picks against them!!!!!!!!

Southlake Carroll will win the series!

acowboyfan, good luck this weekend!
dodger,

I do follow the numbers but overall you read me wrong. I'm not offended by your prediction that SLC wins in 2, it might happen. SCL does swing the bats well and have good senior lead pitching.

I was just curious as to your baseball knowledge and why you say the SLC pitching will make the difference.

Still curious?

My bantering with you isn't anything but that of a baseball fan enjoying the playoffs.

Coppell's season ending two game skid did cause even the faithful to wonder where were the bats and allowing 10 runs against Lamar gives us all food for thought...but I watched the games and the Cowboys are playing as well now as they have all season. So if SLC beats Coppell then my hats will be off to them.

But you see my friend I saw you coming, being an admitted numbers person...humorous as it may seem in baseball...a sport that decides who gets into the Hall of Fame and MVP on numbers...YES I know the World Series winner and World Champion isn't decided on numbers just winning on the field....but then we wouldn't have much to talk about or type about.

Common opponents... the numbers again read close to equal and that is why I asked you for some non-numbers incite. Each team is 9-2 against common opponents, a nice a sample size..not a one team sample.

One team has scored 76 runs and allowed 40 runs to score the other has scored 69 runs and allowed 25 runs to score.

Again I ask you to share your baseball knowledge with us and no, I am not baiting you. I think that knowledge might help me watch the games the teams play in the field...in between looking at my slide ruler.

Tychco,

glad to hear I will be surrounded by more wisdom this summer, I look forward to meeting you as well....I just hope it isn't too soon unless you come watch the goings on between the SCL and Coppell. I always like watching a good lefty track down fly balls and rack, a 400 average is always good. I beleive you have seen SLC several times and I can understand why you like me think this will be a good series...2 games or 3.
ACF,

I don't think I can bring much wisdom, I will leave that to Hawkman. Good luck this weekend. I am planning to come Saturday if it gets there. My young-un has baseabll tonight and the 4:00 SLC start time kills me tomorrow, although I may sneak out early and go. If not, I am taking in Keller/FM at FM Friday.

threeboysdad,

If I wanted your opinion, I would beat it out of you... Wink (Nobody jump on me, 3bd is a buddy)
I am actually trying to stay focused on working and making a living to pay for summer baseball....ha ha ha.

No word yet but that field just doesn't drain well as we all found out last year. There doesn't seem to be enough wind nor sun to dry it out to a good level...but when you have Hondo working the field I am sure they will give it there best shot to make it playable.

I will post here if I get an update or a request to go work the field.

That's different than what we heard on our web site. Who is your source? By the way, do you know what items the coaches flipped for and who won and what? Should be a great series. SLC is a team with all kinds of momentum. Coppell will have to play very tough to stay in it.
So far dodger is half way right, Stripling pitched a good game for SLC and came out the winner 2-1. Hermans was equally good as good for the Cowboys, none of the 3 runs scored were earned.

They should have still been playing this one at 0 - 0. But right now SLC is up 1- 0 in the series.

Right now the only difference between the two teams is an error and at this stage of the playoffs that just might be the difference between most teams.

See you tomorrow .
I need to correct another mistake by yours truly. It may not matter in this thread, but Denton Ryan and Keller Fossil Ridge's Game 3 is at Noon at Colleyville Heritage.

Game 1 Coppell vs SLC wasn't too pretty, but the pitching was very good. Congrats to Stripling and SLC for their win today. Ross' only run allowed came on a delayed steal and then an error on grounder to first. He was particularly sharp after getting the lead. It's good to see someone who can smell victory and go get it.

Good luck to both teams tomorrow.
My hats off to SLC for winning today 7-6 over the Cowboys. Tanner Toal made the play of the day to save it for the Dragons, he caught a line drive straight back to him which appeared to have hit him in the cup, he held the ball and had the presence of mind to turn and almost get a double play before falling to the ground. There were men on second and third with no outs at the time.

Cunningham was the winner, Malone took his first varsity loss.

Good year for the Cowboys, more on that when I have the heart.

Congrats to Coach Hughes and SLC. Great coach and an even better man.

Congrats to Coppell, Coach English, Hondo and Stone. Awesome year guys. Extremely solid core group coming back next year for sure. Wouldn't be shocked if they started out the year ranked in the top 5 of the state. I'm sorry to see Richardson, Neider, Trudell, DJ, Pratt, Reynolds and the other seniors season come to an end. Great group of young men who will all be successful if not in baseball, then for sure in whatever career path they choose.
