Sorry if these is seen as hijacking the thread, but what do your grades have to look like in order to be admittted as an athlete at Cornell or any of the other IVY League or IVY League quality schools? I made a 27 on the ACT in April and I have a 4.0 GPA. I am just wondering what I need to get my ACT score up to and if I need to take all honors classes to get my GPA above a 4.0.
There are a lot of variables so it is difficult to know for sure. Generally a 29+ on the ACT and they look at a combination of GPA and SAT scores. You don't need to take all AP's but you do for the core math, english and probably history. 2100+ SAT and 4.3 GPA will probably get you into Cornell but not some of the other Ivy's. BTW Dallas fenwaysouth is your best resource for Cornell.

DLOck15,

If you google "Ivy Academic Index" you will get articles like this (below) that explain exactly what BOF is describing. The Academic Index or AI is the tool that coaches and Admissions Committees use in evaluating an athletic recruit for admission. It varies by school, and it is not publically published what each school's AI index is for a particular year or sport. However, you can expect you will need exceptional SATs or ACTs, high GPA, high class rank, and very rigorous classes. There is an AI conversion factor for ACTs that you can google as well.

If you are interested in an Ivy school, I suggest running your numbers through the AI calculator to get an idea of where you stand. An Ivy coach is focusing on your baseball skills, and he will probably ask you about your academic peformance relative to the items in the Academic Index. If he feels you are a strong candidate interested in the school, he will present your credentials to Admissions. Admissions will comment "LIkely" or "Not Likely". This process is called a pre-read and is the start of the overall Ivy Admissions process for athletes. There is much more, but this answers your question and gets you started.

Class rank would take into account the difficuty of your classes. You will get a boost or weightto your gpa in AZ it is 5.0 for AP and 4.5 for honors. At our graduation many people were shocked to see that the kids who thought they were top dogs in the regular classes weren't anywhere near the kids who took the AP classes and recieved B's and some A's.
