No one in Boston gives a crap about Lackey. He's a jerk. He had his wife served divorce papers at the hospital while she was getting breast cancer treatment. I mentioned this to a former teammate of his. The response was, "Not surprised. He's an arse." Lackey didn't like Boston (the fan attention). Boston didn't like him.

Most everybody in Chicago feels the same way. What a miserable person.

Why would anybody be surprised the Cubs are struggling despite being the best team?  They are super young and have very little postseason experience.  Rizzo, Bryant, Baez, Russell, Schwarber, Contreras, Hendricks, Heyward, Edwards, Soler, Montgomery, Almora, Rondon and Grimm are all 28 and younger with most 25 and younger.  These are kids playing in the World Series and they are still in great shape to come back and win it all.  If 2015 (or something close) shows up it will go seven but if not then who knows.

If anyone thinks not winning the series means the season is a disappointment just doesn't get it.  I've been a Cubs fan for over 30 years and I've never been more excited than I am now.  They are set up to make a 5 to 7 year run of multiple championships.  I understand there's no guarantee they will win any in that span but no other team in MLB is this stocked at the MLB level and loaded with MiLB talent.

Cubs win in 7 - mark it down.

This series is helping to reinvigorate baseball.  Game 5 Sunday had higher ratings than football.  If this goes 7 games it will blow up TV sets.

Over the last 6 years at my workplace, there hasn't been 5 minutes of discussion about baseball.  I am literally the only die hard fan of the game here so its has been cool to see the casual fan tuning in and talking about the series.  There was a lot of talk in the spring about making baseball fun again and this series has definitely been a fun one to watch.  Hoping for a game 7!!

Coach - I sure hope so.  But if there is not a compelling story for non-baseball people, ie,  the Cubs' drought, interesting history (Lee Elia rant anyone?) and the fan's continual self - flagellation, I don't think that the ratings are nearly as high.  It would be good for MLB if the Cubs are in it every year, but never win.

Side note, the boy and I went to the Cubs/Reds game on July 4, Indians/Tigers the next day and Jays/Royals the next day.  We thought at the time that we were seeing at least one WS team and maybe two.

Boy, can I relate.  I was showing folks in my office pics of my wife in her Holloween costume as Wild Thing Ricky Vaughn from "major league". ..  name and number on the jersey, perfect replica glasses and hat.  Not one person knew who the heck it was.  "oh, she's a baseball player"  Ugghhh.

"Cowboy" Joe West is behind the plate, the third tightest zone in MLB this season.  Tomlin will throw 50%+ breaking balls.  Cubs players are young, brought up hitting fastballs.  If the Cubs hitters chase, it's over.  If they stay patient, balls will fly out and it will be Kluber vs Lester for WS champs.

I like Chicago tonight.  You always have to like them with Arietta on the hill, don't you?  But speaking of chasing, I don't know if the young cubbies will ever figure out how to get good at-bats against Kluber.   I'll be rooting for the Cubs, but expect the Indians to win game 7.

Maybe Maddon has to do some crazy stuff.  Maybe tonight let Arietta hit for himself and have Schwarber DH for Baez.  He's the better hitter right now.  Maybe that would get through to the kid and he'd stop swinging at everything a foot outside, in the dirt, or a foot over his head.  Nah, he's got zero confidence already, so more likely it would kill his confidence for good.

Not Kluber vs. Hendricks?

I thought maybe they were planning Lester on short rest. No matter, it will be all hands on deck for both teams.

If Kluber pitches well and the Indians win, there will be no question about who the MVP is.

Roger Angell has it right:  the World Series should be best 8 out of 15 this year.

Roger Angell.  Has there been another writer so appropriately named?  What a great piece, written under deadline, by a 96 year old man who saw Babe Ruth play, was present at the birth of the Mets, and now gives us this.

Totally agree with bringing Chapman in.  Arrieta recent history has been to break down quickly in the 6th or 7th inning.  I felt Cleveland had the momentum going at that point.  If you don't win in game 6 there is no game 7 tonight.  Win tonight and figure tomorrow out later.  With him getting pulled in the 9th he only threw 20 some pitches so he should be good to go tonight.

I'm so excited for tonight.  It's going to feel like 108 years until game time.  This 42 year old old man feels like the giddy 13 year old way back when.  I think Cubs win tonight because they will figure Kluber out.  Look at the adjustments they made against Tomlin last night from game 3.  Plus, there's not a huge difference between Kluber and Tomlin.  Both are very good pitchers and Kluber is better but both rely on breaking stuff and they made great adjustments.  I think Baez had a few bright spots last in his at bats but he's not going to hit tonight.  He needs the offseason to get his mind right.

Heyward earned his money last night.  Huge catch and huge throw to limit the Indians damage.  I could care less if he goes to the plate without a bat.  Just keep playing defense because 1 - 6 are going to hit.

Oh yeah what's even more awesome is all the kids at school who never shown more than a passing interest in baseball are coming up to me talking about baseball and Cubs specifically because they all know I'm a Cubs fan.  If maybe just a few of them become fans it is worth it.  Baseball really needed this shot in the arm.

Will Cleveland do what Golden State did  earlier this year? Up 3-1 and lose in 7! If so it will be talked about forever. One town who has no history of championships is given a reprieve after being down 3-1 and finally breaks through only to have their baseball team go up 3-1 and lose in 7 later the same year!!

This is so strange it could not have been written by Stephen King. Who would believe it?

The game tonight is going to be on tvs everywhere!! Hooray baseball!!!

Heyward is an example of impacting the game in different ways.

Regarding Baez, tonight may be his night. One hit sure did get Chris Bryant back on track.

Life long Cubs fan here and I can barely contain my excitement and nervousness. I love how adding Schwarber to the 2nd position totally changed and lengthened the line-up. At the top of the order, there is no way to avoid pitching to a potential game-changing hitter. And, just when you think your at the easy part of the line-up, they hit a bomb. Kluber is a great pitcher, but can he be effective on another short period of rest against one of the most potent offenses?  It will be a great game. Either way, I think there will be tears tonight.

On a side note, listening to John Smoltz call the games has been a pleasure.  His experience is second to none and I have really appreciated his insightful commentary.  He says a lot without saying a lot.

Yes, agree.  On the other hand, can there be two guys more irritating than A-Rod and Pete Rose?  Maybe just me but I can't for the life of me figure out who thought putting these two on such a big stage was a good idea.  Reminds me of our current upcoming election... ANY other two would be better choices.  A-rod's info is solid but his delivery makes me want to hurl.  He's trying SO hard to be a TV guy.  Pete Rose is the creepy uncle - Frank Thomas laughs at his jokes just to appease him.

I will agree with you on a-rod, don't care for him at all. But Pete is the best! Short, sweet, to the point w/o any of the BS. Not afraid to say what everyone else is thinking. Would he be 'The Donald' in your political comparison? LOL

Smoltz is great and would be even better if he wasn't paired with Mr. Hair Plug (so annoying).

No other choice but to bring in Chapman. You got to do what you got to do at the moment, not tomorrow. Good choice, best part is everyone will be in the game at one point, if close.

This is really great for baseball, or local sports channel has even given up football talk for a few days.

I don't know. With a five run lead, I believe they would have been fine letting Montgomery or Wood go long and save Chapman in case the game actually did get tight. The idea of relying on a couple of your rested starters to fill reliever roles in game seven is risky to me. Maddon may very well be kicking himself come the sixth or seventh innings. However, given how little they've been able to do against Kluber, it may be irrelevant what they have in the bullpen. On another note, I can't help but notice the Indians are +106 right now. That's a real value with Kluber at home. Tells me there's a LOT of Cubs fans.

Well, this is the way I see it, Indians COULD have come back, and this is baseball, anything can happen and the CUBS had to win.

Also, managers like Madden don't play for tomorrow, they play for today.
