Ok, I play at a D2 Juco with 6 LHP including myself. I get the least amount of innings because several of the pitchers can go low D1 or quality D2 schools. I know hand down I'll never play at a big time D1 school but here is my question. A school I'm interested in currently D1 independent and 9-19. Next year they will be D2 to be in a conference.

1. Will this team be ranked in the top 25 D2 school in the nation

2. Can I walk on there since their going to D2

Oh ya, the Juco I'm at will probably start to be considered for ranking and I have back up d2 and d3 schools but i'm just curious if i could walk onto this team

Welcome to the HSBBW Sean!

If you do so, make sure that you do all your homework...while you are at the HSBBW go to the "find" function and begin to review all the threads that talk about the in's and out's, pro's and con's of the business of being a walk on or a recruited walk on. Gonna' get a bunch of different and some very adamant opinions regarding walking on...opinions you need to at least consider...as well as areas to research and preparations/steps to take should yoo choose that direction.

Good Luck!

Cool
Sean, as O44 said "Welcome to the HSBBW"!

As for whether you can walk on and make the team at any school is impossible without knowing you or watching you pitch. My guess is you already have some idea about your chances. What you want as a walkon is a "legitimate" chance to make the team.

But there are some things you can be doing to help better assess your chances. Have you seen this team play? Do they need LHP? HAve you spoken to their coach? Do they normally take walk-ons from Junior Colleges? Will your coach make a call for you?

As I said...as a walk-on what you want it a legitmate chance to make the team. (during son's recruiting process, D1 coach said son was welcome to come to their 'try out'; when asked how many players he'd ever taken from those "tryouts", he replied "NONE")

Then, finally, if you DO walk-on at this school and the baseball doesn't work out....is this where you'd want to be? Remember, baseball is great - but for most student athletes, the education is the main reason to be there.

Good luck to you...and again, welcome to the HSBBW!
I want to thank all you guys for welcoming me and with the advice you have given me and you guys are right, with out really seeing me pitch, you can't really give me the answer i was seeking. Honestly I don't think my coach would really make a call for me because i'm really not one of his guys, I walked on to the current JUCO team I was on and the whole pursing college teams have been all on me and the help of a former AAA pitcher.

So what ever school I really go to I have to walk on....the only school that would take me and play because that former AAA pitcher is their pitching coach is Penn State Abington, a school I dont want to go to an a place with out my major

So how would I know if a coach really wants me to play for him or if he just wants to me to go to school there so the school makes money
.

It's good to read that you have your academic concerns out ahead of your baseball desires. That's a mature approach.

"So how would I know if a coach really wants me to play for him..."
Whenever one of our boys was wrestling with this same question we invited the coach over for dinner. Afterwards we would retire to the front room and hook him up to this. We weren't always able to pry out of him the answer we were looking for, but my goodness, we sure pried out a lot of other stuff!

"...or if he just wants to me to go to school there so the school makes money."
Always a concern. You're wise to consider this possibility. And wise to find the answer.

Much success to you on your journey. You're asking the right questions, seeking wise advice, and paying attention to an experienced counselor.

Please let us know how everything works out. Your contribution here on this matter will be valuable to other players and their families' who will follow behind you. And that is a gift they will welcome. Thank you Sean Mc.
