Curve ball and sinker ball

If you are saying that the bulk of your umpires are calling pitches that fast then you have a serious problem. It sounds like either your AD needs to talk to your assoc leaders to see about training. If it that bad your AD needs to get together with the other schools and insist on better training or look for another group.

Unfortunately there isn't a lot you can do at the game. The only thing that might work is telling the PU quietly on the side that your pitcher has a slow 12/6 curve. Maybe that will get him to slow down. It may have no effect at all.
Is this aan assoc wide problem or just a selected few. Also, what level are you talking about?

Thanks, this is not an assoc wide problem and it's just a selected few at age level 14 & below. Our High School has experienced Umpires.

I might be mistaken, but it sounds like the ump is calling the pitch before it reaches the plate. If that is so, the ump then has a serious problem. The pitch has to pass the "strikezone" before the umpire can make any kind of decision.

So what is happening is the assoc is using the younger ball to train new guys. That's not unusual might it doesn't sound like they are supervising enough. Here again the AD needs to talk to the assigning body and ask that they put more experienced guys with the newer guys to help them along. If a upper guy is there you can mention the problems you are experiencing. The key is to do it so it's not negative. You don't want the guy to think you're just whining.

It helps if you know the more experienced BU but either way try to get him to the side at some point between innings. Simply say that you know he is there to help his partner to improve and you had notice that he seemed awfully quick on his calls. Mention that he is showing great potential but it is just something you had observed.
