Just found this story in the Chicago Sun Times via ESPN (quoted below with names and schools redacted). It seems like fairly harsh punishment, but I'm glad to see it since rumor has it that similar incidents are overlooked at my son's HS. It sounds like this kid will still make out fine, but it should be a wake up call to others (especially borderline prospects?) at this school. Just wondering if others agree with the punishment.

" *** has been suspended for his senior season after his second violation of the District 204 athletic code of conduct, his father confirmed Friday afternoon."

"(***'s Father) said the family appealed the decision but received the final news on Thursday night: "Unfortunately for ***, he is not able to play baseball this year, which is, I would say, devastating at the least." (***' Father) said *** was found to be in the presence of alcohol."

"*** helped (HS Name) win a state championship as a sophomore and signed with (D1 School - Pac 10) after a junior season that saw the lefthander go 9-1 with a 0.98 ERA. He has been viewed as a potential high pick in the June amateur draft. As part of its preseason rankings, Baseball America listed *** as the nation's 26th-best high school player, and 49th-best draft prospect overall when combined with college players."

"We are in contact with (D1 School) (and) we want to smooth everything out from this point forward. We don't need anymore headaches," (***'s Father)said. "We talked with them already. We were up-front with them. *** called (and) told them the situation. They're gonna do a little more investigating but (D1 Coach) is a great guy (who) believes in giving kids second chances."
