What are the limitations of transferring from one D3 program to another. Can you transfer to another team in your conf or do you need a coaches approval??

At D3 students can self release. They have a form they need to fill out and give to the AD of the school they have interest in. I found the 2014-15 with a google search.

Different conferences have their own rules about transferring to other conference schools. The Student must give this to any school he is interested in before discussing a transfer.
Hopefuly Rick will chime in.

Please be sure to talk to the NCAA. They can assist more than a board. I always wondered haw many players are successful in a D3 to D3 transfer, baseball wise. The only time I have seen it work out is when the student moves to a weaker program. I have seen several transfer to stronger programs and many times they get even less playing time.
If it is for academic fit, then I have seen it work out quite a bit, but most of the times they do not play a sport at the new school.
Rick at Informed Athlete is the go to guy for all transfer / eligibility stuff that we've had. He advertises here and posts here frequently.
Brandon I agree. He knows more than most. 3fingerglove used to be another great resource, but I have not seen him in a while.
Thanks to BishopLeftiesDad and Branson Baseball for their supportive comments. Sorry I haven't visited the site in a few days.
D3 athletes can self-release if they are going to another D3 program. However, be aware that if the athlete marks the box "I want this contact to be confidential", it doesn't always work that way.
I know of two such athletes in the NW US region a couple years ago who ended up having the coach/school they sent the form to immediately call their current coach to do a "background check." When one of the parents asked why the confidentiality request wasn't respected, the coach receiving the self-release said "Your son's current coach was a college teammate of mine, and I felt I owed it to him to ask about your son before getting involved."
Also, as BishopLeftiesDad indicated, each conference sets their own rules for an intra-conference transfer, so the outcome could be different from one conference to another.
Just goes to show, how small the baseball world can be. Be careful before burning any bridges.
