No 17U/18U team because he ran most of them off by being overly critical and on more than one occasion berated the kids because they were ruining "HIS" reputation.

What better excuse than not to field an 18U team?

Hopefully the leopard changes his spots or more will come to the same conclusions.

I saw the summer team play, and there were some high quality kids on the team. By the end of the tournament, you could tell, they just wanted to get it over and get a break from the constant criticism

I guess it depends on who you talk to and which team you were on. I know our 15Us (16U fall) didn't seem to feel over criticized or berated. The little P1 (P.5 Ver 2) excelled with this program. Yes, there are high expectations. You get out of the program what you put in to it. You need to have thick skin and the willingness to put in 100% effort all the time. We are happy here and plan on staying until he is too old to play. Just wanted to put another point of view on here.
There is a difference between high expectations and what took place on the field, that I viewed.

I also understand that the most admired coach left the program and will be coaching elsewhere in the spring, and he is a relative of the head guy. Pretty bad when a relative is said to have left the program bcause he wasn't happy with the way things are run. I understand it wasn't just the issues with the 18U team, but a lot of side items too.

As i noted, hopefully the head guy has learned something from the experiance. His knowledge is spoken highly of, but his coaching technique isn't.
I believe the decision to have a 17U only team is so the emphasis can be on getting the
most players scholarships next summer between their Junior and Senior year. This way Coach Browning would also have a full 2 years to work with the 17U to prepare them for college.
Like P1 we will continue with the Dallas Dragons because that is where we feel we can get the most instruction and possible scholarship opportunities.

What about the 18 players that were 17 on the Summer 18u team. Why did he not want to work with them for 2 years to prepare them for college? Did he not want to get them scholarships?

There were 23 players on the roster
4 18 years old
17 17 years old
2 16 years old

The 4 18's received scholarships from JUCOs

So what happened to all the 17's
I don't know where the other 17's went, but they would be playing 18U now. And the Fall Dallas Dragons team will be 17U.

The posts here reflect the way it usually goes: The ones that stay on a team are usually happy with the results - the ones that are no longer with a team are usually unhappy with the results.

I am assuming that your son has found a new team and that you are happy with it. There is a team or place out there for everyone's needs and personality.

We just feel that the Dallas Dragons is the best place for us. Each player needs to personally decide which team is best for them.
IF, you had a team of 17U that you liked and liked you, wouldn't you offer a 18U team?

After all, when it is part of your income, the more teams, the more kids, the more money. Annd too, if the head guy wanted to focus on the younger team, then someone else could have coached the 18U team. Face it guys, and gals, it was a mess and he's deceided to start over.

Baseball Freak-
I guess I just don't understand what your objective is in posting. Were you wanting to return or not wanting to return? And if you were not wanting to return then what is your point whether there is an
18U team?
The players for Fall 17u that are wanting to return are. Fortunately for those returning Coach Browning does not make decisions based on "the more teams, the more kids, the more money" as you suggested would be the thing to do.
Wasn't this post originally about tryouts for the Dallas Dragons? If your kid already has a team, then why comment? Not every person is happy with the teams they have played for. I'm not affiliated with the Dragons in any way nor has my kid ever played for the Dragons or any of their coaches. I wasn't even going to comment on this subject, just lurking around the posts, but it seems to me (from an outsiders point of view) like some disgruntled players/parents are just trying to "bash" the organization. Let it go and let the next person see if this team is a "fit" for them!

RP, I don't have a dog in this show, but I do know of the program and some of what took place.

I think that before anyone spends $1000+ for a fall team, they should examine all sides of the venture. I know that there are always kids, and parents, that don't agree with coaches,(I been on the coaching side) but when so many have issues, there has to be more. So all I want to see is that folks ask the right questions to be sure that this or any program is right for their or their kids goals.

I do think money is a part, how big only he knows. But I can tell you he flew to the tournament (that most drove to) and was driving a Explorer at the tournament I saw, and the parents paid for it.
I'm only vaguely familiar with the Dragons 18-U team from the summer, as I only saw them play twice.

There were some good players on that team: the catcher and shortstop stood out, as did a pitcher, a righthander, but I don't know his name.

Whether these guys are coming back or not, I don't know. But from my admittedly distant observation, that team had some talent.
BF,
How can you explain how all of the younger team (15U) are happy with JB and are all coming back. I would say 100% approval rating from the 15U players and parents.

As far as I am concerned spending $1000 for this fall team is a no brainer. Does $1000 for uniforms, league games, PG tournament in FL, and 60 strength and conditioning workouts at one of the top facilities in North Texas sound like a bad deal.. Sounds like a good deal to me..

How does that statement made by Jewels4Baseball make
BaseballFreak look foolish?
