Pitcher of the year
Colin Poché
P, Flower Mound Marcus, Sr.

Notable: The senior lefty did not allow an earned run in his first 10 appearances, surrendering his only two earned runs in his final start – a 3-2 Game 1 win over Southlake Carroll in the first-round of the playoffs. An Arkansas signee, Poché finished the year 7-3, with a 0.21 ERA, 97 strikeouts and six complete games. He was drafted by Baltimore in the fifth round of the MLB first-year draft – and is still contemplating whether to sign.
Did you know?: It was the first full varsity season for Poché. On the junior varsity as a sophomore, he missed most of his junior season with elbow tendonitis.

Hitter of the year
Willie Schwanke
P/3B, Frisco Wakeland, Sr.
Notable: There was little that Schwanke – an Arkansas signee – didn’t do for Wakeland. A finalist for SportsDay’s player of the year and pitcher of the year, he hit .420 with a .588 on-base percentage. Schwanke had 27 extra-base hits, including 19 doubles, driving in 41 runs while scoring 32. He shined on the mound as well, part of a potent duo with all-area pitcher Hayden Nixon, finishing 12-0, with a 1.26 ERA and 105 strikeouts.
Did you know?: Schwanke pitched a three-hit shutout in Game 2 against eventual 4A champs Rockwall-Heath, also scoring the game’s only run in a 1-0 win.
Snub team
(because they won't let me do an honorable mention team)

All-snub coach of the year: Arlington Martin’s Curt Culbertson

Culbertson took his program to the state tournament for the first time since 1993. Martin got bounced out of the playoffs in the first round last season, getting run-ruled in Game 3 of its series against Midland Lee. This year, the Warriors made it all the way to the state semifinal.

All-snub newcomer of the year: Plano’s Ryan Robertson

With Plano’s roster experiencing a lot of turnover between 2011 and 2012, Robertson was a big reason why the Wildcats didn’t have any slippage. The sophomore second baseman hit .348, with 18 RBI, 24 runs and 10 steals, as Plano finished at 21-7-3 and District 8-5A champs.

Nice job Corbett - a lot of time and effort on your part! It is always fun to look forward to. My only thought is I would believe there were some P's more deserving of All Area than Tyler Alexander of Carroll, such as J. Moffitt or Enrique Oquendo? Alexander was 5-2 in League Play (out for playoffs), had a 2.40+ era in League Play and lost to the two decent teams in league, Coppell (got run-ruled) and Keller Fossill Ridge. Maybe the question should be to the Carroll coach as to how he was the District Pitcher of Year.

Maybe it happens, but I have never seen it.

I'm with you handyrandy, I've been in 16 All-District meetings and I've never had a coach ask me to help his guys out and he'd help mine.

I'm all for getting as many kids recognized, but I believe that all this has come up because of that. Stuff like taking 5 1st-Team OF's...no, there should only be 3. If you take 5...and lets say an OF gets one of the superlative awards (MVP, Hitter of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, etc.)...or maybe two OF's do...or maybe one of them gets 1st team pitcher...then when you get to the 2nd team guys chances are you will have guys with low numbers making the team.

I will only speak for myself...when I'm voting in these things I take 2 things into consideration.
1) Their district stats,
2) How they did against us

If its close, I will vote for the kid that performed better against us. Really I've voted lately more on what they did against us because some the stats I see are...how can I say this...inflated?

I've left meetings saying, "man, we did really well! I can't believe we got all those kids on 1st and 2nd team!"
I've also left meetings disgusted because a kid did not get 1st or 2nd team.

I've seen lots of things at these meeting...
...2 coaches almost get into a fight
...coaches walk out of the meeting
...a coach was using season stats instead of district stats
...a coach tell me I nominated the wrong kid for District MVP
...a coach beg us to vote for a certain kid because he didn't want to hear that kid's parents if he was left off.

It's becoming an event that I dread going to every year. Luckily there is usually free food involved so that helps a little.

I was verbally attacked by a school board member b/c his kid only got honorable mention(and to be honest, was fortunate to get that-great kid, hard worker, not very good). Dad said "I know how you coaches are. Ya'll get in there and make deals to get kids on or keep kids off.". I challenged his claim, told him to get out of my office. A few weeks later, I was non-tendered. Hmmm..sounds like some of the people on here.
Ag.....fyi...the all district selections are based only on district stats not season stats.....if you check the game changer league stats it will show you that the young man who achieved this award as voted by the district coaches hit 333 in district (not 219) with 10 rbi's and a 357 risp avg....looks fine to me in a pitching strong district...you need to get your facts straight !...guess your son was his backup !
First off- congratulations to the 2012? Winners. And congratulations to the 2013's, although I do not know who they may be.

More important to this thread that has been bumped after 12 months, thank you to Funneldrill and handy randy for telling it like it is. As the husband of a 5a softball coach (retired) and the Dad of a suspect, thank you!

It is a list that can be debated.

The kids who make the list should be congratulated.

The process and those involved could/should be publicly humiliated if the general public was aware of what goes on behind the scenes.
