Teams and players go for several reasons... Why does anyone play in the fall after they have commited to a college?

In regard to the question... The numer one reason... Competition, talent level is outstanding.

But in addition... It's an unbelievable event, ask the Rangers.

The player's future college coach is very likely to be there. The majority of major DI recruiters are there.

It's the biggest scouting attraction in all of baseball. The number of early round picks and current Major League players that played in the event is well known by decision makers. Also the large number of college all americans that played there is well known.

MLB clubs send a dozen or more scouts. Blue Jays have set a new record, they have signed up 34 of their scouts to be there.

Most of the 30 MLB Scouting directors and many other front office staff attend. Whether a player has commited to a college or not, wouldn't he still want to compete in front of hundreds of scouts? The most scouts and highest level scouts he will ever see at one place. Don't college's have scout days?

The event has become somewhat of a baseball celebrity event. Several MLB Managers and coaches, former and current players, even hall of famers, show up each year. Even former NFL and NBA players have been there, and even a former heavy weight world champion boxer that we all know very well.

More importantly, IMO. Baseball players don't stop playing just because they have already signed with a school. That is just the beginning, not the end.

That said, there are some good reasons for not attending, but IMO... Having already commited to a college is not a very good reason for missing that event.

Often it is an agent who keeps a player away. It's hard for an agent to control his player there. Also, nearly all the big time agents are in attendance and the easiest thing to do is get rid of or change an agent. Some agents don't want to risk losing their player even if it's against what is in the best interest of the player. Then that same agent goes to that event because he knows how good it is and how important it is to "him".

We understand that everyone can't be there.

I hope no one sees this as some kind of promotion. This is one event that doesn't need any promotion. Those who have been there know.
