Last night marked baseball's biggest "idiot"'s return to Fenway park since the Evil Empire showed him the money. I've got to be honest, I would have booed him if I were there, however I thought he showed tremendous grace his first time up to the fans who were cheering by tipping his helmet, acknowledging Francona and others in the Sox dugout, and finally motioning respectfully to Wakefield before he stepped in against him. I still don't understand why he left, I honestly think it was Michelle more than the money, but I'm still a fan.

Poptime,

I watched the game last night too and agree with your assesment. Damon conducted himself in a very respectful manner.

I pretty much beleive he went for the $$$. I dont blame him for that. The Red Sox placed a value on his services and the Yankees offered more. As a pure Sox fan, it was disapointing to see him go to NY, but I laugh at those who critize him for it. I am pretty sure if someone came to any of us, dumped 10 to 12 million extra dollars on the table....we would all just get up and leave it sitting there...NOT!

The only thing I criticize him for is continueing on & on about how the Red sox should have paid him more. You took the money, enjoy and stop blabbering on about how the sox should have paid you. If I were a Yankee fan, I would be wanting him to stop thinking about the past and focus on now.

The Sox found a younger version of him in Crisp. Damon will always be thought of fondly in the hearts of Sox fans for the 2004 season, but I think Crisp will prove out the better player from 2006 forward.
Theo taking a vacation really messed things up. They had to fly Mirabelli in a Lear for the game. He never would have been traded in the first place if Theo hadn't left. They would have gotten Loretta for someone else and Wakefield would be better than 1-4 with a 2.6 ERA. If they miss the division or playffs by a couple of games, blame the Mirabelli fumble last winter.
