A overflow crowd packed the Mainland High School Media Center at noon today to watch as the Seniors of the 2007 Mainland baseball team signed their college scholarships. With teachers, students, family members, members of the media and fellow baseball players watching the following scholarships were signed:
Cory Pruitt- Daytona Beach Community College
Ruly Gonzalez- Truman State University
Corey Hlavacek- Notre Dame College
Trent Crow- Notre Dame College
In attendance were DBCC Head Coach Tim Touma, Assistant Coach Chris Reilly, via conference call to address the large gathering was Brad Chambers, Director of Admissions at Truman State University and Head Coach Craig Moro of Notre Dame College. The ceremony was taped by students of the Multi Media Academy and will be shown on Friday to the Mainland student body.
Each player spoke to the crowd and thanked everyone for making this day possible, special mentions were given to Mainland Head Baseball Coach Michael Burton, Principal Patsy Graham and Athletic Director Dick Toth.
Coach Burton also addressed the crowd and mentioned that Mainland continues to lead by example in the number of Bucs going on to college to pursue their baseball dream.
Senior Season Review of Signed Players:
Cory hit 298 for the Bucs and handled the lead off position all year also leading the team with his on base percentage, Ruly played leftfield along with shortstop and hit .328, Corey threw 2-One hitters for the Bucs and had 59 Strikeouts in 50 innings on the mound while hitting .333 as the starting shortstop, Trent had a no hitter, led the Bucs with 66 Strikeouts in 60 innings, anchored first base and led the Bucs in hitting at .388.
