Question came up in another thread on when did you start showcasing.

I struggle with this one because...what is a showcase?

Is it an individual thing that is run by PG or PBR where anyone will the cash can show up and/or you get an invite from them...and they are emailing everyone anyway?

Is it a college camp thing for individuals that's open to the public any anyone willing to pay can sign up?

Is it a team thing where your team is playing in a big tournament like PG in Fort Myers or PBR in Georgia where coaches are reportedly looking for players?

Is it a team thing where your team is attending a college camp where the college coaches work you out and then you play controlled games?

Or is it all of these things combined that's considered showcasing?

By definition a showcase is an individual event designed to showcase your talents. By definition a team tournament now matter how prestigious isn’t a showcase. Jerry Ford (president of PG, former regular poster) didn’t like the term showcase teams.

However, I believe most people see any event a player can showcase his talents to the proper people at the next level to be a showcase.

A player who is a definite D3 prospect isn’t going to get invited to major events. But he’s still showcasing his talent to D3  programs.

When I created the Area Code Baseball in 1987, I had NO idea the the word "showcase" would be used to ID College prospects. Parents need to ask questions of the "Showcase Operator" before expending $$$$.

All the players for our AC tryouts and games were ID by Pro Scouts and my contacts. We may have "miss" a few, but not many.

Veteran Scouts can evaluate the 5 tools by the watch, gun and sound.

Pro scouts and College Coaches can evaluate the 6th Tool by observation; listening to the players conversations and the "gossip" from scouts, parents and girl friends watching the game. "Study the game"!  Learn from the great players. "they have a story to tell"

A payment in the hundreds of dollars that somehow my spouse can find with laser precision in the credit card statement, yet she somehow misses her salon "treatment" charges...but seriously it is a vehicle to provide exposure to the next level of the prospect and well defined by other posters. I will omit my editorial on it's value and impact on sports.
