At my son's mens league team game a runner took a big swerve to avoid the catcher who was about to catch the ball in a bang-bang play such that the runner missed the bag on the headfirst dive and went 5=6' past the catcher who had the ball and proceeded to black the plate. A 8-10 second standoff occurred with the runner trying his ninja moves to get to the plate (no dice).
In the meantime, I wondered if the pitcher who backed up the throw could amble over and passively help make it harder to reach the bag. I'm sure the answer is NO, but I wondered about it later...
