Derek Matlock has continued to impress the baseball community by leading the Outlaws to a second consecutive TCL Championship Series, and the TCL has noticed. Matlock was voted the "TCL Coach of the Year" for the second consecutive season, his only two with the league.

And now he is headed to Lake Dallas.

Hmmm...what are you saying, he cannot win the "big one". If my memory is correct, last year he did not "almost" win the TCL, he won it.

Nothing more to the story from this front. I think coaches play an important role and that Coach Matlock is a good coach, but in the end it is the players who have to hit, throw, and field the ball; win or lose.

Many years ago in Cooperstown, we took our team to eat at former Yankee great Clete Boyer's BBQ joint. He asked one of our boys, "Son, did you win today?" Our player said, "No sir, we lost." To which he replied, "Son, players win games. Managers lose them. Don't ever forget that."
