We had the warnings blow through our community. One hit 20 miles west and a really bad one 30 miles east. We lost power for only two hours, so I would say it didn't hurt us too much. I had to yell at my kids and wife to get to a safe place, as they didn't take it too seriously. The storm was moving around 60 MPH, so I wasn't going to mess around. I am not someone who yells at much, but sometimes, you have to.
Last year, a kid in my son's class died from a tornado that hit our community. When I helped with the cleanup, the people would describe the freight train sound they heard. My boss's son is in College, and was a block away from it. Stupid kid (his Dad's words) sat on the patio of his apartment with his roommates during it. That warning came in the middle of the night, but I was able to see the hook was a few miles below us in a single supercell (versus the line that hit us on Sunday), so I didn't wake anybody else up.
