Long weekend showing new recruits around to hockey and football games.

Just a few pitches each day and then start throwing program next week.

Everyone got their new gloves. Pretty cool!

I did not know everyone got gloves each year and 2 ways got 2!

Players were given preliminary schedules for Spring but not released or formalized yet.

Going to get to Florida to see TPM!

Looks like a fun game vs Twins at their Spring training.

Everyone does not travel so will be interesting.

Apparently I am more interested in Micro exam grade than he is.

He has talked to friends that are in first Fall at Juco's and was told they got up at 4am, rode a bus for hours, to work a major college FB game for funding! OUCH

And he loves Paula's updates and lessons learned from James, so keep 'em coming.

also researched his Summer team (Clinton Lumberjacks) and they had 7000 folks there for 4 July!

Pretty slow for baseball right now.

Lifting and throwing every day.

Told him to get in the cages too.

Had to laugh at the "March baseball in the NE" thread.

He walked to classes Friday in shorts and thought it was hilarious that the guys from KY and GA had on coats/hats etc. When the snow is up to their butts in MN it will be a shock.

New covers for the dugouts look cool.

He gets to play 7 games against HS teammates this Spring. Super fun!  Western ILL and SDSU.

Told him to invite guys to Thanksgiving that live too far away. Of course I forgot for a minute how much these guys eat. (Yes James, thinking of u!)

In hind sight it may have been a mistake challenging the Spanish star of the girls golf team. Hilarious! Maybe now he will listen when I tell him it is not about how far you hit it.

As a parent of a college athlete 10 hours away...thank you so much for opening your home on Thanksgiving! Our girls never made it home and it was so nice knowing they were getting home cooked meals. This year Syd will be in St. Thomas (USVI) and I think the other two will go to the games.

As for eating, I'm already done. He got home Saturday morning from fall instructs and we are already out of milk, eggs and frozen fruit for smoothies. Plus Kenny had surgery and people from church have been bringing food and he ate ALL the homemade ginger snaps. I'm so mad I could spit.

Classes going well.

Lifting every day.

Throwing and arm health program started.

He just realized that with the Spring season and Summer team he will play 120 games!

I was of course helpful..told him he is a freshman and prob won't play anyway.

He looked at me like I was crazy!

IOWAMOM told us a summer pitcher just goes for the games they throw. He tried that and his coach told him that they signed him up as. 2 way so he gets to go 6 days a week!

Well there goes my golf buddy.

Team dinners started and he seems to like that.

We are feeling a little down. Covid killed his official visit(never got 1), killed first parents weekend, and cancelled 3 of 4 Fall games. Not right to cancel baseball games and have 60 thousand in football stadiums.

But I know money talks.

Are  u ever right. The bling is just ridiculous! Luckily I am his size!

Unluckily, my golf clubs seem to fit him too well.

Where do you think my Oakleys came from? 😎

I took my son to dinner a couple of months after school started his freshman year and noticed the nice new Nike shoes he was wearing and immediately started yelling at him that we couldn't afford for him to blow money on new shoes!! He was like "mom, they gave me the shoes. Heck, they gave me everything I'm wearing except my underwear!"

Haven't bought him a stitch of casual clothing in the three years, and I love when they get new sweatshirts cause I get the old ones.

Coaches told us it's one way they have to make sure the kids put their dirty laundry in their laundry slots — that's where they put the fun new stuff for the kids to find. :-)

Boredom of classes setting in. Tough, some people have to get up and go to work.

Lifting twice a day.

Losing weight and getting stronger.

Still no schedule but because Minnesota has indoor facilities expect a lot of early home games.

Looking forward to February Florida trip.

Snow coming to MN. Feel for the poor KY kid.

Gophers have not seen Floyd for 6 years!

Sorry but as an IOWA grad....GO HAWKS!

"Lifting twice a day"

Is that every day? if so, how does it allow for rest/recuperation? Would be interesting to know (from a high level) what the lifting routine and time commitment consist of...

Corrections: lifting is Mon-Wed-Fri and he is going evenings when bored. And Gophers have not seen Floyd in 7 years!

Must be the good clean living but no Fall cuts and no hazing issues.

Mid terms in progress.

Winter program consists of Lifting MWF followed by Throwing. TTH conditioning.

No cages or hard throwing yet.

Impressed with the leadership of the upperclassmen.

Love the "old school" approach and all team seems to have great chemistry.

No formal schedule yet but love having domes so other schools want to come to MN!

Can tell kids are homesick when they have the time to call at 9am!!!

I know of one kid who was cut from this D1 P5 Baseball team. Played in over 1/2 of the games in last years 6W - 31L season. Had a 1.000 fielding percentage and was in top 8 in both average and ops.

Do not know the "behind the music" on why he was cut but I believe that he was not recruited by the current R/C. Kid and the family are shattered. I do not believe that he has anywhere to go this season as he is too old to go the JUCO route.

Bored from the long Winter break. Told him after he plays 50 games and then Summer and Fall he will look forward to this next year.

Classes over this week!

Winter workouts without coaches were run by Seniors.

Lifting throwing etc with no hitting. Guess they do not want bad habits without coaches there.

Upon Jan return intra squads start. Should be a hoot.

Formal schedule is out with 18 Feb start. First is in Boca Raton against Florida Atlantic( with TPM in attendance).

Over 30 home games because they have a dome! Sweet.

I will disagree a little on the first part.  With their schedule for the fall he will always be frustrated.  They do their fall stuff so early, I don't understand why since they have a dome, that the players are always frustrated.  They should be like the Southern schools and drag it out from September through early November so that they get a little playing in along and do workouts.

Been home for weeks now.

Half the family has Covid so no visits/no Christmas/

No serious symptoms but no ne wants to be the one to kill grandpa.

But when he is bored, he works out every day going thru his workouts given to him by POS and pitching coaches.

He is stronger and faster but looks thin to me!

Practices do not start until Mid January.

Hit 95 yesterday and sitting 92-3.

Pretty good for December.

Met all HS team for lunch and got their state championship rings.

Grades are great and no time for girls so I am expecting good things come February.

Trying to work on mental aspects as I expect P5 batters to hit him and doubt freshmen are ready for a little failure.

Will expect advice from Consultant/Adbono/TPM /PTWood going forward.

Merry Christmas and to all a Good Knight!

Grades are great and no time for girls …

Girls are ok as long as they don’t become a distraction. Grades and baseball have to come first. My son had a girlfriend who understood this. She was also an athlete. My son dated her for two years. Ironically, she came from the next county from us. When they graduated my son got tired of driving thirty miles to see her. He decided he must have been in lust and broke it off.

42 days until 1st game!

Working out every day.

Feel bad for guys with no place to workout.

We have a new facility which a Nationals pitcher rents  for 3 hrs every day for college guys to workout. Charges the guys $70 for winter break.

Seth threw a bull pen against college guys today.

Struck out all.

FB sitting 94 with CB 86.

I am getting excited.

Benched 175, squatted 450. Faster and gaining weight with less BMI.

Ready for some baseball.

the quality hitters already know, because of patterns

Bob

Happy New Year, Bob!

Don't want to derail @Good Knight's always interesting thread, but what percentage of quality hitters (not counting Astros) know, or at least correctly guess more often than not, what pitch is coming?  With MLB's overall batting average down to .244 last season, the lowest since 1972, I'm thinking it's not as many as you suggest!

JCG;

a Happy New Year to you and your family!!!

with the emergence of hitting coaches with "metrics" experience, the hitter today has additional weapons to "predict" the pitch.

However I am a believer of the "take away" formula. Watch the pitcher in the bullpen. Does he have control of his basic pitch's.

Reduce the pitcher to 1 or 2 pitches. Watch his pattern to your teammates. This can change during the game. When Gibson hit his famous HR.

The Dodger scout [a friend] was in the hitting area behind the Dodgers dugout and reminding Gibson of the A's pitcher "backdoor slider" on a 2 strike count.

The low BA in MLB is the result of hitters concern about "launch" angle and the measurement of bat speed.

If the team gave "bonus" for a .300 BA you would see a change. It all begins with the GM, the Mgr and the hitting coaches. TEAM PHILOSOPHY!!

Have you decided on your new residence? Maybe you and your son purchase a Minor League team.

Bob

Bob, that's a fine idea, but I think the kid needs to gather more experience pissing away other people's money before he starts with mine -- not that I have enough to purchase even a non-affiliated team,  though with you backing us, it may be workable.  I'd like to see the return of the Crusher's wouldn't you?

David,  LP - landing pad?
